Guest guest
Hi, all, After being " only " a web site since summer, the Military Vaccine Education Center is ready to become a full-fledged organization. An outgrowth of the Anthrax Vaccine Network, MVEC (or www.milvacs.org, on the web) is an educational website, and the organization will be an educational organization. Once incorporated, we will apply to the IRS for 501©3 status - non-profit, this time, not political, so that we can at last write grants. I'm looking for a few more people to serve as initial officers and Board members - and am currently re-writing the business plan and the by-laws of the old Anthrax Vaccine Network to reflect our current priorities and goals. One of those priorities, already in process, is a data base of the ill. Another is a data base of everyone involved across the country, so that we can work on a state-by-state coordinating effort - this data base has also been started. We have some initial seed money to start - $25,000, with several thousand more later on in the year. It gives us a good beginning, and a way to establish a permanent endowment fund so that we do not have to worry about our ability to be a permanent, lasting organization. By the end of the first year - the end of 2004, that is - we expect to have written grants and put other funding systems in place. Those who volunteer to be starting officers will not be asked to serve more than two years; after that, elections will be held every year. We hope to have regular Board members rotate on and off the Board in the traditional 1-to-3 year cycles. By this weekend, the new business plan and by-laws will be ready for review. If you are interested, please let me know and I will get you a copy, or will post them on the web site where they can be viewed by anyone. Thank you all, Kathy Hubbell
Guest guest
Dear Kathy: I would be interested in learning more about the new organization. I don't think I'd fit in as a board member, but perhaps I could contribute in some other way. I run my own small construction company so have some knowledge of business although not non-profit. Any way if you think you might be able to use me let me know.
