Hi, if your daughter is showing signs of becoming emotionally affected by slightly unusual appearance then I would suggest you find a conultant who really understands this condition. Many people have been happy with the work of Dr at Moorfields eye hospital in London. "andrea.agnes" <andrea.agnes@...> wrote: My daughter, Agnes, with blephariphimosis, is almost five now. I think she is beautiful the way she looks. It is who she is. She always says to people who ask; I was born this way. Lately she is really seeing the difference between her and her friends. I've started the visits to a hospital to find out what can be done. I'd really like to hear some experiences from others. Where do I go if I do want her to get an operation? and what are different

options?

Hi Alhena

Welcome to the group. I'd love to hearmore about your jasmine enfleurage

experiment. My jasmines will all be in bloom soon (8 varieties), and I'd

love to start enfleuraging (is that a verb? ;-) them.

hi Anya and everyone,

What I call " jasmine " is our local similar to sambac,

i.e. a big white flower the size of a medium rose,

having a delicious aroma. It is properly (or nearly)

the variety Gardenia jasminoides or Gardenia

thunbergia. We also have the true jasmine

(grandiflorum) a variety called locally as " jasmin del

pais " (jasmine of the country) but these flowers are

so subtle and small that only a very small qty of

extract could be prepared upon them.

I use as frames some flat containers (a tapper),

around 17 x 24 cm (6.5 x 10 inches) and 7 cm (3

inches) high , ideally they should be made of non

transparent glass, but if of a good pvc or plastic

(some non absorbent and not transparent) then I cut a

thick glass to put inside each as a bottom (the glass

should be thick -not easily broken- for safety of the

person who handles it). Every container must be easily

shut and sealed, and reopened. If glass is good but

transparent, when flowers are inside keep in a very

dark place.

Use solid Vaseline as it is truly odorless. The fat

which many recommend gave me bad result. Extend the

vaseline over the inside glass, around 1.5 inch thick,

put the flowers over the vaseline with the cups

downwards, for this size of container you can put

around 25 jasmin flowers. Close the container and

keep at a dark place at room temperature. The flowers

will endure around 24 to 36 hours (may be more if room

is more cold), when you see them brownish or without

good aroma, quit them and put a new lot over the

vaseline. You can do as many series as you wish, may

be 20 to 30, but that would be too much I think, 10 to

15 series is all right for a very scented flower.

Also if you have few flowers, you can reduce the

thickness of the vaseline layer, then with less series

you get the same result (doing some math too).

Series finished, weight the obtained vaseline, put it

in a caramel or blue glass container (plastic

forbidden), the mouth a little wide (the typical

pharmacist ones) the qty more or less equal, for 50 mg

vaseline, 50 mg alcohol (or if 2 pounds, 1

quart)although the liquid should always cover the

vaseline, then may be a little more is required. The

vaseline cannot be chopped, it is like a cream, so you

have to move it every day, opening ways in it with a

sort of " knife " (of glass or silicone). Do not let air

between the alcohol and the container closing (it

evaporates and also may oxidize a little). After 15

to 30 days, you test this alcohol and find the exact

aroma of the flower, this is the " flower extract,

'from pommade' " as mentioned by Septimus Piesse,

thus a direct component of any formula, and what many

call also an " absolute " . I believe its not necessary

to distill this extract, that would reduce the qty and

will not improve it. I'm at this point of the

process, so not much more that I can say ... only that

I plan to test some fixatives to add to it , and later

use the extract in blends to see how it works. If you

or others wish to comment about fixatives would be

great, last week I had a bad breathing experience with

benzoic acid (powder). After 30 days you separate the

alcohol keeping it adequately, but presumably a 2nd

quality extract may be obtained by again adding

alcohol to the remaining vaseline and living in

maceration for another month. Always grain alcohol or

vodka. The maceration in alcohol should be done

always at summer temperature.

Enfleurage is the french word, dont know an English

term for this, the meaning around " to enflower, to put

the flower in it " .

blessings,

alhena
