Guest guest
All, I have been living with the adverse reaction to the Hepatax B vaccine that I received in the US Navy in 1982 and 1983 and to put it mildly it has been a nightmare. I would be interested in knowing how many people in the group have had reactions to vaccines that they received in the military. Also, how many people realize that the symptoms of adverse reactions to vaccines (not just Hep are the same as the symptoms for the Gulf War Syndrome. For some reason the message about our suffering does not seem to be getting across to the right people. My state senator's secretary refuses to speak to me concerning my issues about vaccine damage or my complaints about the VA's coverups. My HMO doctor treats me like I just made up a new disease when I talk about adverse reactions to vaccines. I finally have worked it out to go to see Dr in Spring, Texas to get tested for an adverse reaction to Hepatitis B Vaccine. The link to his site is: www.immunotoxicology.com My VA doctor thinks I am making up the whole vaccine reaction thing even though I have medical records from 1983 documenting my adverse reactions. She, along with many other VA doctors (she works at the VA hospital 2 days a week by the way) think that all Veteran's who are ill are that way because of either stress or depression. I am fortunate that the medications that she had me on did not kill me and I am being completely truthful in that matter. Since I have never gotten a diagnosis, and I have tried, I never knew until recently about the adverse reaction. I also never filed a claim and now I cannot file a claim because I missed the cut off. What do we do to get someone to listen to this important issue. I am attaching a copy of a letter that I hand carried to my senator's office so that others can see how little people in power care about our plight. I suppose the senator is too busy voting in a pay raise for him and his buddies to take my situation into consideration. Austin ********* letter to Senator September 28, 2001 Austin Senator Pete Domenici 625 Silver Southwest, Suite 330 Albuquerque, NM 87102 (505) 346-6791 Dear Senator Domenici, IS THE VETERAN’S ADMINISTRATION GUILTY OF A GIANT COVERUP??? THE VETERAN’S ADMINISTRATION HELPED DEVELOP THE HEPATITIS B VACCINE!!! THAT IS THE SAME VACCINE THAT HAS CAUSED DEATH, RETARDATION, ARTHRITIS, MUSCLE PAINS AND OTHER TERRIBLE SYMPTOMS IN CHILDREN AND ADULTS!!! THIS IS THE SAME VACCINE THAT HAS BEEN STUDIED IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND BY THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE!!! THE SYMPTOMS OF AN AUTOIMMUNE REACTION TO THE HEPATITIS B VACCINE ARE THAT SAME AS THOSE FOR THE GULF WAR SYNDROME!!! SINCE THE VETERAN’S ADMINISTRATION HELPED DEVELOP THE HEPATITIS B VACCINE, THEN WHY IS IT THAT VETERAN’S ADMINISTRATIN DOCTORS SEEM TO HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT AUTOIMMUNE RESPONSES TO VACCINES??? I have corresponded with you three times before. In two of the instances you helped me immensely. In the other you were completely honest with me and I thank you for that honesty. I now wish to be a voice in the darkness for myself as well as others in need. These are trying times with looming military action and fear of terriorist attacks. The last time we had to deal with such a situation was when Iraq invaded Kuwait. Unfortunately there is a lingering problem with something called the Persian Gulf Syndrome and also known as the Gulf War Syndrome. The name is extremely important when you realize that a high number (I have seen 30%) of the soldiers who developed symptoms of the Gulf War Syndrome never went to the Persian Gulf. I may be one of the first veterans to suffer from the symptoms of Gulf War Syndrome and my symptoms started in 1982 or 1983!!! That is hard to fathom until you realize that so many of the soldiers who suffered Gulf War Syndrome never even went to the Persian Gulf. What caused their illness and my illness. I say that vaccines that were administered by the military caused them. In my case I was given three shots, two in 1982 and the third in 1983. I was not even told what the possible side effects were and they are documented in the insert that comes with the vaccines. I was ordered to be vaccinated by a vaccine that was made from Hepatitis B contaminated blood. The fact that I was vaccinated can still be detected in my blood. It does not go away!!! I have suffered mostly in silence for over 18 years. I did not have a clue that the Hepatitis B Vaccine could have caused all of this until three weeks ago. I have lost my wife and son through divorce. I have had numerous psychological and IQ tests to help find out why I have these coginitve problems. I have lost considerable income because I could not get a job that paid more than minimum wages for years. The cognitive difficulties have done the most harm to me and are what causes me to greatest amount of dispair. It does not have to be that way. I am being treated by a Veteran’s Administration but she refuses to even consider my medical condition to be vaccine related. I can understand in a way because if she draws the conclusion that a vaccine that the Veteran’s Administration helped develop is the cause of my medical condition, her career with the Veteran’s Administration Hospital may be over. The Veteran’s Hospital may have to admit the real cause of the Gulf War Syndrome. Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Help me to get a true diagnosis and proper treatment so that I can regain my health and dignity. If the Veteran’s Administration is either in capable or unwilling to properly diagnose and treat me then they should send me to someone who can. I have only recently started researching to find an answer to why I have and have had several medical problems. My symptoms started also immediately after I was vaccinated with the Hepatitis B Vaccine while I served in the Navy. I was vaccinated with three shots, two in 1982 and one in 1983. I developed arthritis while I was training at Ft. Fliss, Texas in 1994 but now I think my arthritis was caused by the Hepatitis B Vaccine. I started thinking after speaking to my Veteran’s Administration doctor and then reading something from the Air Force Times and decided to look for information on the Hepatitis B Vaccine on the internet. I did not expect to find anything and was shocked at what I did find. I now know why my health has deteriorated as it has and I think I know why so many soldiers became sick both during and after the Gulf War. I have inserted some valuable information from reputable sources that explain a lot of things. As you read though the inserted information you can see a very distinct link from autoimmune responses to the Hepatitis B Vaccine and the Gulf War Syndrome. The symptoms are the same!!! In 1998, after four years of dragging its feet and denying my claims the Veteran’s Administration finally granted me 40% disability. I have had an additional claim pending for a few years and had it denied so I decided to drop it then I was sent a letter stating that my case was reoppened. I did not realize why it was reoppened until I found a link on the internet that stated that legislation passed in 2000 that the Veteran’s Administration has to assist the veterans with their claims. I also found legislation that stated that veterans were supposed to be assisted in 1997. I never got any help, from the Veteran’s Administration, with my claims back then or now. I take in new pertinent information or mail it in. Someone takes my information when I take it in and when I ask how my claim is going I am told that it is being decided on. I do not know if anyone has even opened my folder. My claim was reopened because the Veteran’s Administration was forced to reopen it 7 months ago. The Veteran’s Administration is dragging it feet again. In all fairness I have to admit that my Veteran’s Administration doctor is trying to help me but I think that the Veteran’s Administration has her hands tied as to what she can do to help me. She is in the middle of a big conflict of interest. She can protect her Veteran’s Administration job or try to help me get well. Right now I cannot get a proper diagnosis of my medical problems. Without a proper diagnosis I cannot get the proper treatment and overcome my current medical problems. I am in the same situation as the soldiers who came back from the Gulf War with their mysterious symptoms. I spent 12 months on medical leave and 2 months on personal leave because of my arthritis. I finally found a position where I worked that would accept my permanent restrictions. I took a 33% pay cut and went back to work on October 30, 2000! I would hope that the Veteran’s Administration would quit dragging their feet on legitimate veteran’s claims. It is also my hope that the Veteran’s Administration would admit its complicity is developing a vaccine that has caused others and myself so much misery. The rest of this correspondence is some of the information that I found concerning the Hepatitis B Vaccine and the Gulf War Syndrome. As you can see there is plenty of data concerning the Hepatitis B Vaccine adverse reactions!!! I hope that what you read today can spare others from suffering as I have and as have other soldiers and civilians.
