Hi

I am 27 and have BPES. I had a daughter when I was 24 and have been trying

for a second but after having tests have been found to have Pre-ovarian

failure.

Women with the condition can be tested to see if they have fertility

problems. I would advise that they see their GP who can hopefully refer

them to a suitable specialist.

Best of luck.

I am an unaffected parent of 3 girls with the eye condition. They are

now in their twenties and I have recently learnt that fertility could

be a problem. I wonder if anyone has any experiences that may help me.

Hi Bryony Thanks for your reply. You obviously didn't realise that it was Barbara who was writing the e mail. (cheryl's mum). I know Cheryl is worried about it and I just wondered if there was any other older people on the site who had daughters in the same position. Thanks again. Hi,

I know it was a long tme since you posted so hope you se this.....is

this a common option for girls who may have infertility problems? Did

the specialist suggest removing her ovaries without actually knowing

for sure if she was going to have a problem?

I have a 19yr old daughter with BPES & big concerns about this issue

right now......would love to `talk` with you some more - could you

email me direct please?

Bye

HI all, ive just come in at this point, so sorry for not saying anything earlier. I am 37, I have BPES - and told at an early age about 15 that there was a possibility i couldnt have children (because of BPES) - not really understanding why, that was it - i didnt ask anymore. They scanned me and gave me blood tests and said everything looked 'normal'. My periods have always been completely up the wall, sometimes ok, sometimes completely missing, sometimes only a week in between..still do.. I have been pregnant twice now, have 2 beautiful healthy children, both born by C-Section, but apart from that perfectly 'normal' everything else. This is my story, and i wanted to share it. I understand medical profession has come a long way since I was 15, and i think it depends on type 1 or type 11. Clare

My history is quite similar to Clare's, except that I have one child.

Many people have anovulatory cycles. It does not necessarily mean

they will never have any children, but unfortunately sometimes it

does. The geneticist I recently saw, said he could not say that being

diagnosed with type 1 or 2 would definitely say whether or not a

female is or would become infertile.

I know this is a difficult and emotional issue. I am sorry your

daughter has to go through this.
