Guest guest
I saw your post...my child had mumps a few weeks ago. The doctor didn't even want to admit it at first. Said it was a parotid infection. She went and got blood titers drawn - then dr. said it was mumps, then called one evening and said it wasn't - then finally I took her back to the hosp to have it drawn again and had another ped interpret it - and yes, she did have the mumps. She is 10 years old now. There are a few symptoms of mumps that I have been told are not symptoms of parotid infection. One is that mumps will move from one side to the other - a parotid infection will usually not, and the " pickle test " ..if the kid ( if they usually enjoy pickles) absolutely cannot eat a pickle...mumps. It will actually hurt the salivary glands to eat it. Parotid infection doesn't include that symptom...and, just for info...parotid infections really can look like mumps, and they both hurt a lot - but mumps is worse - can't even bend the head to the side. Fever with parotid infection about 65% of the time..no fever in mumps...hhhmmmm - trying to think of other stuff. Oh, lots of tirednes asociated with the mumps...in fact, it's a major symptom of it and one of the defining factors. My daughter would play for a little while, and then just drift off to sleep on the couch while she was talking! Hope this helped some. le PM Subject: Mumps symptoms > My son received his MMR shot at 18 months before I knew better. We > have since stopped vaccinating. Guest guest
My son had the mumps at age 5. The doctor was in so much denial she kept insisting it was a mumps-like virus. Rubbish! It was classic mumps. He survived quite nicely, as did I at the same age. Mumps symptoms My son received his MMR shot at 18 months before I knew better. We have since stopped vaccinating. Right now he seems to have symptoms of mumps. Has anyone heard of a previously vaccinated child getting mumps? I am aware that vaccinations don't always work as there are many cases of chicken pox around town involving vaccinated kids.I don't know anyone who has a child who has had mumps though! Thanks!
