Guest guest Posted January 2, 2002 Report Share Posted January 2, 2002 According to everything I've read, the Catholic church does promote vaccination regarrdless of where the original line of cells came from. There's someone on another list that had the church tell her that they support vaccination and because of that, she could not put her child in the catholic school and claim religious exemption.... Guest guest Posted January 2, 2002 Report Share Posted January 2, 2002 This is terrible, I can't believe they would do that as the Cathlic Church is pretty clear about its opposition to abortion. There is a debate going on about vaccines though and I'm not sure the issue is as clear-cut for the Church now. Guest guest Posted January 2, 2002 Report Share Posted January 2, 2002 I agree Sherri! I am Catholic and live in Alaska where religious and medical exemptions are allowed. I interpret my " religion " as including my spiritual/personal and philisphical views in addition to the " doctrine " . It is not a clear cut view at all in my eyes. I do not think this exemption should be interpreted as what a religion specifies in terms of views on vaccines....it encompases much more than that. After dealing with my 8 year old who has ongoing uncontrolled seizures and brain damage after a 90 minute seizure 6 hours after his 2nd DPT shot at 4 months, I would fight tooth and nail against ANYONE who questions my validity in filing a religious exemption. I guess I can't understand all the concern and fear some have about using this exemption. No one has ever questioned us about it and I would encourage anyone to take on this battle rather than the daily ongoing " battle " of taking care of a vaccine damaged child for the rest of your life. My 2 1/2 year old is unvaxed and very healthy. I guess when it comes down to it I feel that I will do what I have to do to prevent my children from future vaccines. I don't think I said that, or even implied it in my post. I was simply curious as to *what* religions were actually against vaccinations <and possibly why> since we couldn't think of any and in our state the only two exemptions allowed are medical & religious. It seemed ironic to us that a religious exemption would be allowed... but we couldn't think of any common religions that were outright anti-vax. We are both atheists, and have no intentions of being anything else!! I'm also in Texas, where I can claim a religious exemption and no once can say anything about it <they don't have the right to ask what religion we belong to>. We are moving there in the next month and from what I understand I'll need to go to the Dept of Health to get a religious exempt. Is Florida a " tricky " state? Thanks bunches!
