Guest guest
definately cool mist... i always thought the hot one was a vaporiser --more for croupy type stuff.. but that a cool mist humidifier is what you use for stuffy noses etc.. they work incredible..... you only want to use hot steam for croup if at all... im not sure bout the diffuser for essential oils-- but i dont think that youre suposed to put essential oils in a humidifier Adrien attached mama to my breath of life and lil angel Ariel DreamingMoon born gently and lovingly at home 10/1999
Guest guest
Yep, I can second that. I've read that you never want to use heat to diffuse because it somehow changes the molecular structure. I believe it is said to interfere with any therapeutic application you may be using the oil for. I just bought a diffuser myself. I didn't compare models and prices so I have no advice there. I knew someone who recommended the Young Living diffuser so I just went with it. I trust the Young Living oils and figured they wouldn't want to ruin their reputation by selling a lousy diffuser. I do understand that some diffusers definitely can be louder than others. Also I think they may be rated to how large a room they can cover. I'd love to hear about which oils you will be diffusing and how you like their fragrance. What's prompting you to buy a diffuser? Have you heard of all the therapeutic uses for oils? So far I've only diffused two oils. I have one that smells like Jasmine flowers and is absolutely heavenly. Guest guest
No Sue, the humidifier is not the same as a diffuser. But yes, I do believe I've heard that some diffusers work with heat and supposedly that can alter the oils molecular structure. So you do want to know whether it is a hot and cold diffuser. Bummer, I think I missed out on an essential oil discussion. I feel like may not have sent me all the posts. So forgive me if I've duplicated information. Guest guest
Nope, you use a special cold air diffuser for essential oils. My favorite one is reasonably priced at 49.95 US$. Dana Young does the essential oils training for the company, and at this time, I believe, this is the only company Dr. Pénoël is endorsing, although I know that at one time he endorsed Young Living. I could be mistaken in this, but I do know this is the only nutritional company he endorses. I am very careful to only use therapeutic grade essential oils, because even if something " smells like " something, that doesn't mean it has the same therapeutic benefits. There are three of Dr. Pénoël's books available at http://www.pulseparty.com/oils_books.php?ID=108823. Over the holidays I have been diffusing balsam fir. Not only does it smell so festive, it's great for the respiratory system, which always needs help this time of year. My diffuser covers about 500 square feet, and it's very powerful. Most oils I diffuse for only about 15 minutes at a time. In the boys room, I've been diffusing Eucalyptus radiata. It's great for the respiratory and immune systems. Jon's had a bit of an earache, so I've been diffusing that in his room, plus breastmilk in his ear. Worked wonders. This is the only oil I diffuse for more than 15 minutes. I put the diffuser on its lowest setting and let it go all night long. If it runs out of oil it's okay, because it's just blowing air into the room. In our room I've occasionally diffused Spearmint. It's great for calming emotions, and with all of Joe's family traipsing in and out over the holidays, plus my mom's breast cancer and my dad's two aneurysms, I've needed all the help I can get! I also put a drop or two in my tea. Really rich flavor. When I really need to calm down in a hurry, I rub some spearmint between my palms and cover my nose and mouth with my hands and inhale. Altogether a lovely journey, this exploration of essential oils. I love spending time " getting to know " each oil and its properties. Guest guest
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with essential oils . I have only just begun to get somewhat serious with learning about them so I really enjoy hearing how others use the oils. The book you mentioned definitely sounds like something I need to check out. Balsam Fir, huh? Does it smell like Christmas trees? I'm about to buy an Evergreen blend from YL that I'm hoping will smell just like Christmas trees. I love that smell. I've been known to stop at Christmas tree lots just to smell the trees. My MIL was extremely allergic to Christmas trees, so we weren't able to use this one when she was alive, so we go a little gung ho on it now. Christmas that actually SMELLS like Christmas!
