My name is Damon Whitlow. I am a 24 year old living in the Norfolk, Va.

area. I hold the rank of Petty Officer third class. I am currently attached

to HC-8 aboard NAVSTA Norfolk. I have been married for almost three years

and we just had our first child() two weeks ago. Today I was called in

off of leave to receive my anthrax shot. The first shot of the series. I

have done some extensive reading on the vaccine and also testimonials from

other service members who have received or refused the vaccination. I was

informed upon my arrival at the squadron to report to the division officer.

The " DivO " told me that I needed to take the tracking sheet to the hospital

and get my shot. I asked him if I could have more time to do more reading.

I was told no. I asked him why not and he informed that I have to have it

today or else. I asked what the consequences were and he told me a court

martial and bad conduct discharge. I asked him for one day to do some more

reading. Again I was denied and was ordered to report to the hospital or

state that I was refusing to take the vaccination. The decision that I made

was to stand my ground and be unwavering in the shadow of what ever the

outcome may be.

While in the military I have had an outstanding record. I was promoted

to E-4 out of " A " school and have had a great career so far. I am a naval

aircrewman and a SAR swimmer as well. I have no problem placing my life in

jeopardy to carry out my duties but I will not let them put this vaccine in

my body. Can the JMP please help me with my case and put the word out that

we as military members should have to be " totalforced " into this vaccination?

Sincerely,

AD3 Damon Whitlow

P.S. This just happened today so I have not officially been reprimanded

Dear Damon:

I am a military Mom, my son who is in the Marines has had many adverse

reactions. All I want to do is give you encouragement to stand your ground.

My son was not aware of all of the difficulties, even with all of the rumors

he didn't believe his own country would do something so dangerous or

irresponsible, and he may pay for the rest of his life.

You hang in there, and no matter what know you have made a good decision.

Just Another Mom
