I believe they are made up of resin or composite. They are barely visible unless you look real hard. They can only be done on molars and bi-cuspids; it is too bad that they cannot seal all teeth! Guest guest
Dr. , DDS in the database, said he has seen/heard of an increase in cavities in the area from the sealants; this after I have had all my kids' teeth sealed years ago. My kids haven't had any troubles; however if the area isn't cleaned well enough before applying the bacteria are sealed in. -- s, Consultant ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Two Sisters Gourmet - Gourmet Taste in Take-Out Time Check out our new products: Wheat Beer Bread, Mango Peach Salsa, and Tearless Onion & Chives Seasoning Blend Ask me about our great fundraising programs!! Guest guest
Hi Jim, There is a question about leaching from Bisphenol A. Also, they use a chemical to roughen up the enamel in order to give the sealant good adherence. The sealants are not permanent and do need replacing (more etching?). Do a list search on " sealants " ...you'll find 23 on the list, and that should give you a few more opinions. Do your research and perhaps talk to a few holistic dentists for their take. If the enamel on your boys teeth is good, I would avoid them. Sealants will also prevent remineralization from all the good raw milk. I opted to not get them for my kids. HTH, Randi The dentist has recommended that they be treated with a sealant (a procedure that I had as a kid) to help prevent cavities, etc. Insurance covers 100% and so how can I refuse? > > I just wanted to know if anyone has heard anything negative about sealants and if we should stay away from them for health reasons. I imagine that proper diet (we're just starting to drink raw milk) and hygiene will do as much good (?). Just looking for your opinions. > > Thanks! > > Jim
Guest guest
Hi Jim, We chose no sealants for my youngest son. We use non-flouride toothpaste, and a home made mouth rinse ( one teaspoon baking soda, one teaspoon sea salt, 5-10 drops of oil (clove, spearmint, wintergreen) in about a quart of pure water). No cavities for years. A great website for dental issues is www.healingnaturallybybee.com Bee is a Weston Price fan as well. Guest guest
You have to be careful with sealants because they are often times actually sealing in decay that is yet undetectable with regular methods. We go to Advance Family Dental in Vadnais Heights. He uses a laser to help find decay at its earliest stages. This pretty much eliminates the need for sealants altogether but if you did want to have them done, I'd make sure that you are positive there is no decay there whatsoever before you start. Also, I think it's a superfluous thing to do unless your kids are prone to decay. I believe it was " invented " in the first place to help kids who had a lot of decay and now it's used on almost all kids regardless of their record with decay.
