Guest guest
List: Regarding the gulfwarvets bulletin board, it has been down since mid November. Someone who lurks on this list started posting messages over there using other people's names. The messages were extremely offensive. The individual is in the Navy and did manage to stupidly post a few messages in his own alias within 7 minutes of some of the forgeries. His first mistake was in using Lehanne's name on postings The only other place she had posted anything (not even gwv's) was at . The webmaster shut down gulfwarvets bulletin board until he can get a passworded system set up. The erroneous postings began shortly after I referred to a post at gwv in a post here, which is how he ever found gulfwarvets in the first place. Needless to say, I had to apologize to several people in print over there for things I never said in support of DoD, while insulting other posters. Since then the few posts that list other forums have been deleted here and the senders notified, there was no point in giving this coward a road map to other forums to extend his abusive harassment. This individual also attacked another board I rarely use. They also deleted extremely offensive/forged posts. The public forum at gulfwarvets was very open and a wide variety of posts, pro and con on the Anthrax vaccine appeared, as well as posts that addresses VA care (or the lack thereof). In fact the focus on the Anthrax vaccine was fairly recent on that bulletin board compared to other issues. If you decide to start a public forum, some decisions will need to be made. Will it address issues beyond what we address here? Personally I think a wide forum should be available, both pro and con, because it enables us to answer questions that some may not fully explored. People might enjoy exploring wider veterans issues that aren't practical on a private, topic oriented e-mail list. Although God knows we've taken a few detours here. A basic parameters of topic should be laid out, maybe similar to what gulfwarvets had. If someone is going to moderate it (not me) Perhaps, they should be prepared to just make sure that posters are not abused and that nonsense posts aren't kept. Some here know what I mean without mentioning another board with some fairly stupid posts all in CAPS designed to (successfully) infuriate all. Gretchen List owner Send suggestions to at: Siobahn <siobahn@...> >>>>>> From: Siobahn <siobahn@...> Btw a few people expressed interest in bringing back the GulfWar Bulletin Board. So I set up the software and have the pages ready to go. I thought we'd moderate it to prevent the problems from the other one. We can add any subjects you would like. Is anyone interested? If so we'll need some moderators. Let me know
Guest guest
We would have total and complete control of this one Gretchen. I own the server and can backtrack on anyone. Believe me I aggressively control them. The only service I've ever had that wouldn't work with me was AOL which I had totally banned for a period of 6 months. We could ban the names.. the ips whatever. We could also make the messages pre approved. The software is pretty configurable. It's up to you guys if you want it. I'm more than willing to provide the software and the site for it.
