In reference to the Pentagon 'stopping " the anthrax vaccine, I find it

interesting that the Pentagon did that....after all, the Pentagon can't

really make decisions on the military, as the military is run primarily, by

the Executive branch(the President) and by the Legislative branch, or the

Congress. After all, it's the Congress who determines how much money the

military gets(House and Senate Armed Services Committees) , and where the

money goes(House and Senate Appropriations Committees, etc). It just seems

like the Pentagon is pushing for the anthrax vaccine

" at all costs " -its kind of like the Pentagon is a loose cannon doing whatever

it chooses. Any thoughts???

Heres a thought, this is an election year. Undoubtedly, the anthrax vaccine

issue has become a political hot potato. Lets do some math here, 2.4 Million

service members, all of which should be registered voters, I see a real big

problem here for the Democrat Party if they continue to stand behind

Secretary Cohen's unpopular Anthrax policy. Clinton is hurting his own

political party's election momentum, by not stopping this program

immediately.

The public may soon be calling for the removal of Secretary Cohen for

this very expensive, experiment on our Military members. Service members

should most definetely vote against the party that allowed the cultivation of

this fiasco. If they think this won't hurt them in an election year, they

are sadly mistaken. " We the people, " are holding the high cards now, and

controversy in an election year such as this could be extremely damaging to

their campaign effort.

Republican candidate, McCain, was in South Carolina just the other

day talking about getting American service members off of food stamps.

Betcha, most people in uniform would vote for a guy like him. Allowing Cohen

to continue the march with his AVIP during an election year is a very bad

strategy on behalf of the Democrat party, and Bill Clinton. The Democrats

are in the process of disconnecting themselves from an enormous amount of GI

voters, and their families. Don't be surprised if the AVIP becomes a

front-burner issue in the November election.

To chicagogregg -

You are right - the Pentagon cannot go on forever doing whatever it chooses,

but,

just like the kid whose mother keeps telling " Stop that! " but Mom never puts her

foot down, the disobedient and bratty child will continue merrily on his way,

gleefully doing as he pleases, knowing full well that his parents have no

backbone. Thus it will continue until the last straw breaks the proverbial

camel's back, then it will be interesting to see what happens.

By the way, my understanding is that the Pentagon (translate - " SecDef Cohen " )

told congress where to go. I have not heard that they are actually stopping the

AVIP, rather quite to the contrary. Any new info I missed?

Basically, the bottom line is that the DOD told Congress to go pound sand. I

was initially very discouraged, but, after rethinking this, maybe now I'm a

little optimistic. I hope Congress now views this willful, deliberate action

displayed by the DOD to disregard anything that they have said. Hopefully

now Congress will " feel our pain " that we have gone through (some of us

months, others years). I hope this new action by the DOD gives Congress the

fuel they need to get really pissed off, and come to grips with reality on

who it is that really runs who.

Amen ! Nothing like thumbing your nose at those who have power (or think

they do) to start a fight. Hope this one gets going real soon.
