I don't understand this study. Are they saying they gave whooping cough

vaccine to a group of children with whooping cough? Are they saying they

gave whooping cough vaccine to a group of children that were well and they

all got whooping cough?

Vitamin C and whooping cough study

This post doesn't really qualify with the things that are usually posted but

hope you don't mind my sharing.

I was looking up some things in the Nutrition Almanac, last night and came

across this interesting study that was done years ago.

Nutrition Almanac, Fourth Edition by Gayla J. Kirschmann and D.

Kirschmann. Published by McGraw Hill, copyright 1996. ISBN:

0-07-034922-3.

p. 77:

Human Tests

1. Vitamin C and whooping cough. Ninety children with whooping cough were

given vitamin C orally or were injected with 5000 milligrams daily for 7

days, with the dosage being gradually reduced until a daily level of 100

milligrams was reached. A control group was given whooping cough vaccine.

Results. The duration of the disease in the children receiving ascorbic

acid was 15 to 20 days, while the average duration for the children

receiving vaccine was 34 days. When ascorbic acid therapy was started in

the catarrhal stage (during which the mucous membranes become inflamed), the

spasmodic stage was prevented in 75 percent of the cases. (Journal of the

American Medical Association, November 4, 1950, as reported in Rodale, The

Encyclopedia for Healthful Living, p. 956.)

Interesting, but why the heck give children with whooping cough, the

pertussis vax?

Its great about the Vitamin C. - but the onslaught on the immune system

already struggling is more than I want to imagine.

It wouldn't matter what you'd given the other group - they still would have

gotten better faster!

But I like Vitamin C, you know. But this article makes no sense

I agree with Sheri. That's why I asked my questions last night. Here is

what I said: " I don't understand this study. Are they saying they gave

gave whooping cough vaccine to a group of children that were well and they

Hi guys,

Are you really surprised that they gave the whooping cough vaccine to people

who have whooping cough? It is already the recommendation that children who

have been exposed to measles or have contracted measles less than 72 hours

earlier be given the MMR vaccine as a 'treatment' so probably, this is what

they were testing out here? But vaccines, in order to expand their market

share, have to not only prevent but treat illnesses as well. Any miracle

cures would have that ability!

Take care,

Meryl

Tongue firmly in cheek there :-)

Amy, I attended an FDA workshop years ago when they were discussing vaccine

inserts. I gave someone the page who went on to lose it, but they were

going to put in there that you were not to be vaccinated against pertussis

if you had (recently only?) had it.

Please look into the inserts and see if it was put in there. When I get a

chance I will do the same. Sheri just sent us a list of them and you can

also find them on my website.
