Why did they wait all this time to send out people to different points areoun the US to answer questions about GWS or GWI???? Is it because there is a lot of public outrage, and a lot of " vets...walked away from these meetings dissatisfied, not happy... " ??? At least the government gives the APPEARANCE that IT CARES. Too bad that it only took them a couple of years to do this.
Guest guest
To ALL, I hear ya! It got so bad for me when no one would listen to my complaints that I had to call the Special Assistance Office for the Persian Gulf Illness Clinic. Up until this point, I was told I would just have to learn to deal with it. They continued to send me to clinics. I have to say we have some really good Doctors out there that really care about soldiers health. It wasn't until I attended the town hall meeting held at our installation that I finally got someone's attention. Had I not stood up and asked the tough questions I am certain I would still be back at the TMC. I got sick and tired of hearing the same old line and more concerned when others I know started having similar problems. Most of them have PCSed to Korea now. I don't know about the rest of the Gang up there on Mr. Rostker's staff but Eve Krammer really did a great job listening to my complaints and Spent almost 40 minutes talking to me. Gosh we need so many more just like her. Many of you know me and I have been keeping a positive attitude about all this. Like Robin, I too have many of the same problems, memory loss, fatigue, joint and muscle aches, burning fingers, hands, feet and toes. On many days I feel like Festis from the old Gun Smoke series. Remember how he used to limp around? Each day is an adventure and rainy days are the worst. About all you can do is hold on and enjoy the ride this stuff puts your through. I am not going to let this beat me and continue to stay active and do my best on the good days. Stay positive and make it a point to inform your chain of command if your experience or feel that you are being ignored by the medical staff. Stay persistent and don't take let them tell you its all in your head or that you have the flu. Above all, look out for yourself and your soldiers. Believe it or not, there are some out there who actually care about the health of our soldiers. Be persistent and keep diaries of your symptoms and a time course of events. This will come in hand later on when you are Finally sent to a hospital like Walter or your regional Med Center. Obtain a copy of the product insert. Also, register with the Persian Gulf Registry if you have deployed to the Gulf region both during or after the Gulf War. 1-800-796-9699. I am no doctor but I am available and willing to listen to those that need some help dealing with this illness. I know what it is like to go through the depression stage. This is not your fault nor is it punishment for past transgressions. This is one of those things you had no control over. Like the Rostker team told us, " We know you are having problems so come forward and let us know what's happening to you! " Well I encourage everyone to do just that. let them know what is happening and if some wont listen then talk to someone who will. Your Chaplain, family, friends or even your elected officials are some good places to turn to for help. My heart felt thanks goes out to all of you who have supported those of us having these rare cases! I don't know what I would have done without you. I thank my God, and pray for the souls of those appointed above us so that they may come to realize that we are getting sick after being vaccinated with this safe vaccine.
