We just received word through a reliable source that vaccinations are being

delayed. The following information was supposedly forwarded to all group

commanders and squadron commanders in the Air Force Reserve. (I don't know

about other services but I would imagine they have similar orders.

" There will be limited anthrax vaccine availability until the contractor,

Bioport, receives FDA certification and is producing FDA approved vaccine.

There is an adequate supply of vaccine to meet our Phase I requirements but

there is not an excess to start into Phase II. I expect to see an

announcement about Phase II in the next several weeks. "

" Anyone who has started the anthrax series is to continue the series even if

there deployment is cancelled, they have returned from a deployment and do

not anticipate returning to the AOR, or they are scheduled to retire. "

" There is sufficient vaccine available for Phase I and all members who may

deploy as part of the AEF or SWA through August 2000. Phase II start date

will be announced later but is not anticipated until late spring or early

summer. Even if your medical unit has sufficient vaccine to administer

vaccine to those who might go to the AOR do not institute the AVIP until

there are firm orders to enter SWA or Korea, or Phase II start date is

announced.

I would like to confirm that I was briefed essentially the same thing at

Dover AFB today. I am unsure how this will affect us. I am a flyer who has

received three shots already. I don't know if I will have to take anymore.

We were told it would have no effect on us because we have all the vaccine

Since the military will postpone the shots until next spring, isn't it a good

idea to now write your Congressmen and Senators about stopping the anthrax

vaccine PERMANETELY before it starts again next spring???

The people who have started the series are still receiving shots.
