Guest guest
I have looked but can find no real proff that the armed forces can not bring back with them certain desies like polio and measles. Some ladies on an email list I am on are rethinking their decision not to vaxx because they think " ... there have been warnings that the US armed forces may bring back polio and measles, and it might be a good idea to be vaccinated against these. " and this from a mom who doesn't vaxx. How can I help stop this fear? Guest guest
So did any bring it back from The Gulf War, Vietnam, Korea, Bosnia - on and on. And how many are on the ground in Afghanistna -1000 or something. This is ludicrous. You can't stop the fear - people are sheep many times. How are they goingt to bring it back anyway? And the military is vaxed to the max - tell these women that - if they believe vaccines work, these people should never get sick again and certainly not bring anything back. You can't argue with stupidity Its nice of you to try though Sheri At 10:04 AM 10/23/2001 -0600, you wrote: > > I have looked but can find no real proff that the armed forces can not bring back with them certain desies like polio and measles. Guest guest
Actually, in the area of arguing with Stupidity, I find that my husbands approach works well. You fight stupidity with stupidity. As in what Sheri said, If they are vaxed to the max, and vaxes " always work " then HOW could they come back with something? Guest guest
Also, please read about these diseases and not only the safety, but effectiveness, of the vaccines. For instance, measles, unless contracted by an infant or an adult, is rarely serious. Vitamin A is known to significantly impact the death rate from measles. Any mom who had the measles is able to protect her infant via maternal antibodies. Adults used to have no fear because their immunity was lifelong. The vaccinated can get full-blown cases of the measles, as evidenced by outbreaks among documented 100% vaccinated populations. They also are known to get mild or sub-clinical cases, thereby boosting the " vaccine-induced " immunity. Such cases are not necessarily better than getting a full-blown case - there is reason to believe unresolved measles carries considerable long-term risk. See: Measles virus infection without rash in childhood is related to disease in adult life. Ronne,-T Lancet. 1985 Jan 5; 1(8419): 1-5. The presence of measles specific antibodies is usually taken as evidence of typical measles in the past; in the present study it was regarded as evidence of infection with measles virus, but not necessarily of the common disease accompanied by a typical rash. The association between a negative history of measles in childhood and certain diseases later in life was investigated by a historical prospective method, based on school health records combined with self-reporting in adulthood, and tests for specific IgG measles antibody. There was evidence of association between a negative history of measles, exposure in early life (possibly injection of immune serum globulin after exposure), and development of immunoreactive diseases, sebaceous skin diseases, degenerative diseases of bone and cartilage, and certain tumours. It is suggested that the presence of measles virus specific antibodies at the time of acute infection interferes with development of specific cytolytic reactions, and enables intracellular measles virus to survive the acute infection. If this hypothesis is verified, use of immune serum globulin after measles exposure has to be of immune serum globulin after measles exposure has to be reconsidered. In this very important study, those who had evidence of measles without rash (via blood or other studies) had significantly increased risk for serious disease in adulthood, including cancer. Although polio can be more serious than measles, and more often, it is not clear what actually caused polio to disappear. The decline in routine injections of antibiotics and tonsillectomies, known to cause polio, may have played a significant role. Also, polio is such a benign disease for most people, that they never even know they had it. Please use the resources at your disposal, including Sheri's site (http://www.nccn.net/~wwithin/vaccine.htm ), as well as mine (www.vaccinationnews.com) to research, and encourage others to research, this topic.
