Guest guest Posted November 15, 2005 Report Share Posted November 15, 2005 Hello, my name is Amy Serafin, I am 23 years old and January of this year I left the service after completing 4 years. During my 4 years I was deployed for 3 months and after my father telling me to refuse the anthrax vaccine I just decided to do it, because I had no idea about the possibility of any side effects. Needless to say I was living a normal life, working in a Command Section, which kept me extremely busy, and I loved it! I was going to school, exercising every day, at times working a part time job on the weekends, and I got married. I decided to get out of the military to have school as my priority but also work a full time job. During out-processing of the military I was told to file for VA disability because I have a few problems with my knee but nothing major. I listened and made sure to file right away. April of this year I had my firt VA appointment and had labwork done with x-rays to follow. Only two hours later after the lab work, the ER called me and told me to return right away because my blood glucose was really high...I believe it was 460. Since that day I have been diagnosed as Type 1 Diabetes which is insulin dependent and luckily I'm able to try and control it with an insulin pump that I wear all the time. You see the problem that I have is that no one in my family is diabetic...I'm not overweight, and apparently my body has insulin but the pancreas is too supressed to work, which is why I believe the anthrax vaccine caused it. With the research that I have done so far, it adds up to what I believe. My VA diabetic doctor believes my theory but won't document it for me. While I was in the service only once right after the first anthrax vaccine I received when I was sick did they take blood and note that it was abnormal, but did nothing. So now, I work a part-time job, and go to school part-time and every day I work on keeping it regulated. It is a full-time job, for myself, my husband, and my family, because yes I have my good days and bads. I am dealing with it and I know down the road it will come much easier to me, but I just hate the possibility of passing it on to my children that I plan to have in the future. That is really unfortunate that you were discharged because you were smart enough to refuse the shot. I am overwhelmed by the responses that I am receiving from everyone. This group is definitely the best one I have joined yet! I am currently writing a Chemistry paper on the Anthrax and so far I received a ton of information. This is a good site to come to, with a lot of knowledgable people that will be able to point you in the right direction. Did you fill out a VAERS form? I know considerable time has passed and you may just want to move on. I fully respect that. Recently, I met a former colleague from work. She was a healthy 25 y/o medical technician who was given the anthrax vaccine and subsequently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. This young women could be you daughter, sister or wife. She is now medically retired from the USAF. Not to mention that no referral to any of the vaccine health centers was given. The second case involved a young healthy ,man, also a medical technician who developed severe arthritis and was medically boarded from the USAF with a diagnosis arthritis secondary to anthrax vaccination. As you can see it is still happening. Now is the time to step up and be heard. I have been asked to contribute to a book to help bring awareness to this issue. IT IS NOT FOR PROFIT. I don't make a dime. All we can get is a forum to raise awareness in the court of public opinion. The group I'm working with is well organized. We are called the Center for Personal Rights I believe that as a country we are well fed up with corruption and lies. To me the anthrax vaccine issue is the most egregious. If you are willing I need the following: 1. a before anthrax vaccination reaction picture and after anthrax vaccination reaction picture 2. Diagnosis(s) 3. Brief paragraph on your feelings of betrayal, frustrations etc...on the anthrax vaccine Please sign and date statement authorizing the use of your picture and paragraph that may be used to help raise awareness of your issues. I suffered numbness in my hands in 1999....my private doctor would not accept it was from my 3 anthrax vaccinations......I should take this to him. Hopefully you can sue Emergent BioSolutions... Guest guest Posted August 1, 2011 Report Share Posted August 1, 2011 I've been in the Air Force for 16 years and when I rec'd my fifth shot I started feeling flu like symptoms. The military which I have seen many doctors and all they said was it was a auto immune disease and it takes six years or more for this to run through my system. I even went to the infectious disease doctor at University of Michigan and they couldnt help me either. No one can help all they have said was to concentrate on stopping some of the pain with meds.
