Guest guest
Hey everyone, finally got my before an after pics on the computer. . I am a 33 year old woman that was diagnosed with BPES at 3 weeks old. I live in Fairborn Ohio. USA. No one else in my family has it , so I did now know much about a year ago, when I got bored and was reading on the Internet about it. I have been having female problems since I was around 27 or 28. My periods were always normal until about 1 year ago and they just stopped. My doctor and Ob-gyn had been doing different test not relating it to my BPES. All they knew is I was going through non specific ovarian failure. When I started reading on the Internet I was shocked to learn it was related to my eye disorder. I printed out some information and my Ob-gyn remembered having another patient 10 to 15 years ago with BPES that went through menopause at 28. At that time the did not link them together. I have had 2 Surgeries, one when I was 4 and another when I was 5 years old. The doctor who did mine used leg muscles from a muscle bank in my eyes. MY doctors name was A. Burns out of Columbus Ohio. He is a Oculaoplastic Surgeon. My surgeries were pretty successful. In fact at the time I was one of the 1st real successful surgeries. The only problems I really have are some dryness, extreme sensitivity to light and eyelashes that grow into the inner corners of my eyes. They used patch therapy on me because I favor my left eye. I still do and my right eye does get weak sometimes. I am glad my family went through with the surgeries, if anything for cosmetic reasons. Even though I still got teased a little in school, I think the surgeries made my life a little more normal than without them.
