Kids bounce back real quick after a surgery compaired to us whiney

adults...LOL. My kids have had alot of surgeries. The younger they were

the easier they bounced back. My oldest had his last surgery when he was 8

yrs old. He sure was alot different than the other surgeries he had when he

was younger. He had surgery for hypospadias(his pee hole was in the wrong

spot) when he was 9 months old and the surgeon told us not to let him pull

himself up on furniture and stuff. As soon as we got him home he was

crawling around pulling himself up on stuff. He acted as if nothing even

had happened to him.

As far as bouncing back my daughter did very well. As soon as everything wore

off and she felt " normal " again she was all around as if nothing happened. About

how she will look, well be prepared for alot of swelling. It wasn't very pretty

the first day to be honest. When I took my daughters bandages off I was very

upset. But the swelling went down in a few days and it looked great so.... Don't

worry. I was a nervous wreck also. I think that was one of the worst most

stressful days of my life so I know what you're going through :)

Good luck

Hi Dawnmarie,

My daughter had her " lift " a few weeks before her first birthday. It

was much harder on us than on her, I can assure you. I was a wreck, it

was really hard to see her after the surgery, but she was a trooper.

The kids are so great at bouncing back, it is amazing. Caylie started

crawling for the first time that very night! There has never been a

doubt in our mind that it was the right thing at the right time for her.

Put your trust in those doctors, and hang in there, I'm sure your little

one will do just fine too.

Good Luck,

Trish

Hi!

My daughter Sami just had her sling procedure Oct. 22nd. My husband and I were very surprised that she did not look bad at all. She did not have much swelling and very minimal bruising. One thing to be aware of is that after the sling procedure, they are unable to close their eyes. So, they sleep with them open for awhile and do not blink. It was a bit strange at first, especially when we first saw her in recovery and she appeared to be awake, but was actually sleeping. We had to make sure her eyes were well lubricated with ointment and drops. She then started blinking and now closes them at night. Our doc said she would learn to blink from her forehead muscles and that's what she does. (My husband, who also has BPES, also blinks from his forehead). Hope this helps.

We will certainly be thinking of you on

that day. Our daughter, , is

7 months old and they want to do surgery around 15 months to 2 years depending

on if she tilts her head when learning to walk. In terms of the surgery, our 3 year old

daughter, just got her tonsils out. I was a wreck and she came home wanting

to go outside to play. We were sent

home with some good medicine to keep her feeling good so maybe that helped. The kids really don’t understand

what is going on so I think your daughter will do great!! I know what you mean about being nervous

about what they will look like afterward.

She is beautiful now and will be beautiful after! I am sure I will ask you about your experience

more when we get closer to ’s surgery.

This is a note for everyone reading, last

time we went to our opthamologist, we saw another

little boy that had BPES. They said

his dad had it, 6 uncles and his grandfather. None of them had ever had surgery. I found it so interesting just to run

into them. Their first daughter didn’t

have it. The boy was adorable and

could open his eyes pretty well!

Someone also mentioned doing blood testing

in Belgium. We have a geneticist

who said the only people testing for BPES is a lab in Belgium or one in Los Angeles. We live in Atlanta and might be sending out to Belgium for the testing. Seems like that might be a place doing specific research on this

disorder so anyone in Europe might want to look into that. I will be getting more

specifics soon if anyone wants them.

Once again, our prayers will be with Tailynn on the 16th!!
