Guest guest
Don't worry...the extra and increased pain is completely normal. Everything u mentioned about moving in n out of bed n stuff is all normal. Tell her to remember she just had surgery and had a foreign object placed into her body along with them digging around to make a pocket for the battery and get wires placed. She's gonna be sore for awhile and tender for weeks or months while everything scars into place. Take it easy for 6-8 weeks and even if she starts feeling better in a few days or weeks she still needs to be careful. It's a long process but so worth it! I wasn't careful enough the 1st time n I got an infection and had to have it removed (which is MUCH worse than having it put in) had to wait another 6 months for healing and then tried again...I was extra careful the 2nd time and it's still working like a dream 3 1/2 years later. Best of luck n don't be afraid to ask if u have anymore questions! She just had stimulator surgery yesterday after a very successful trial a few months back. She is experiencing a good deal of pain today. I am assuming that everything is normal (she had no complications during the surgery) but we are seeking reassurance that the pain she is having is due mainly to having the device inserted and that it will go away. She has pain meds to take but she still experiences pain when moving in and out of bed. She is able to walk around the house with not much pain. Can anyone provide any comments or experiences based on their surgery? She will not be reading these posts. > >
Guest guest
Thank you very much Deanna for the response. I will show her your note. It's 625 am on east coast as I write this and she reports she is already feeling better today. So I am hopeful that all is well. I got three other responses from my note so you all have been very helpful and I am very thankful for this group. Take care. - > > > Hi -- I have been a member of this group for quite a while on behalf of my wife, but have never posted. Guest guest
I have had three stimulators implanted--third time was the charm--and each time experienced pain from the surgery. The most pain was where the battery device was implanted in my hip. With time and rest and pain meds, that surgery pain cleared up. Both of you keep your chins up and I wish your wife a speedy recovery. Katy

Guest guest
Hi there, I dont know how recently this request was for information, I dont seem to get many messages since I joined the group, it doesnt seem to be used that often. Just wanted to say that the pain your wife is experiencing after the SCS implant is very normal. I was in a lot of pain for the first two weeks - the first week I was actually wondering why on earth I had had it done, as even turning over was agony, and I had to increase my pain medication quite considerably to cope. There is a lot of pain from them siting the battery/power pack which I was told is major surgery in itself, and also where the wires and electrodes are run - this kind of feels like a razor type pain or a cheese wire, as you move at times, but it fades with time I promise, as does the abdominal pain from where they site the unit. Do make sure she is very careful about no bending, lifting, twisting, no arms above her shoulders etc, as she needs to ensure the wires and electrodes settle correctly over the coming 6-8 weeks, and this is vital to ensure things stay in the right place. I do hope she is finding each day a little easier. I called the hospital on week 3 asking them if this amount of pain was normal and they said yes it was, so be assured that it is all normal. However, if she experiences temperature or shivering or any redness around the site, she should get straight in touch with the hospital, or A & E. Best wishes Steph > > > > Hi -- I have been a member of this group for quite a while on behalf of my wife, but have never posted.
