Me and my 2 sons didn't have our first surgery until we were 5 yrs. old. My

surgeon said the later you wait the better the results. Surgeons are

different from what i've read on here, so you just go with what you feel is

right.

My daughter had her first surgery when 4 months old but it was just a very

minor one just to hold her eyelids open. When she's school aged she will have

one to put creases in her lids and later to work on the folds in between her

eyes.

My daughter is 2 1/2 and VERY small for her age. She is in the 5th percentile

for height and weight. She is 22 pounds.

My daughter is also 2 1/2. She was diagnosed at 6 weeks of age, and had

her first surgery at 1 year. This was NOT anything cosmetic. It was

just to lift her lids so she would continue to be getting enough light

in to maintain vision. We too have been told that is it better to wait

as long as you can before starting the cosmetic surgeries because of

better results. She just had a check-up last week where the surgeon

said that unless there are any vision problems between now and then, he

will see her in 2 years when he will start the cosmetic surgery because

she will start kindergarten the next fall.

I know all the surgery stuff can be very confusing in the beginning. My

husband and I were under the impression for the longest time after she

was diagnosed that there was a quick-fix surgical proceedure out there

that would magically work. It was not until everything was clarified

for us around her first surgery that it all became clearer. It is so

wonderful to see the " after " pictures on the posting board though. It

is great to see how the cosmetic surgeries work.

was 4 months. The amount of space between his lids was the

deciding factor. Technically he should have had another surgery

this summer...but his eyes are staying open nicely, buying us

another year of time! He's had 5 surgeries do far.( technically 6

but they did 2 procedures at one time when he was 3 because of the

distance between us and the surgeon, which is 13 hours).
