OK, one last email before I start working. Yup, they're the same jars. The

wood scoops are actually little spoons. But I'm not going to be too concerned

with the size of them. The jar itself is worth more than a dollar compared

to what you pay on-line. They are nice heavy jars.

As far as your bath salts are concerned, I don't know what recipe

you're using but obviously it has an oil in it, as do mine.

But what you can try is to spread them on a cookie sheet for a day

or two and let them dry. That should work.

Hi , I saw those same jars about a month ago here in the Falls, but I thought the scoop was too small, so I didn't buy any. Hi Katy

I think it's a possibility that Meagan could have the beginnings of

bipolar disorder--as does I think. If you can get your hands

on a copy of the Bipolar child (or skim it at the bookstore :-) ),

you will really learn a lot and it is a great book. The unstable

success of the SSRI's with Meagan is one of the clues that may lead

to a mood cycling disorder diagnosis. Rage and anger can be part of

an OCD diagnosis or an ADHD diagnosis too, so it's really hard to

say. Some pediatric psychiatrists recommend trying patients on low

doses of mood stabilizers when they haven't responded to anything

else. You have to moniter liver functions and there's weight gain

and stuff, so it's no easy decision. Keep searching and reading. I

would love to know your reaction after reading the Bipolar Child

book. Write me anytime!

Well, when I went to Ireland, they had the name " Kaitlyn " , but they

pronounced it " Shay-leen " . They laughed at me when I said " Kate-lin " .. I

guess they don't tend to pronouce it that way.

I think it's a really pretty name, regardless of how you pronounce it. A

friend of mine has a son named Liam, and nieces named Kaitlyn and Meghan.

Yes, my acct'g background sure does help in business. But if I ever get

where I can afford it, I'm passing it off to a small accountant to deal with.

WOW!! Thanks for a great idea. Yes, we do have a fireplace

in our family room. We don't use it very often (my husband has

a fear of chimney fires) but even if I don't use them for the fire

I love the idea of the bundles with ribbons on the hearth. I

NEVER would have thought of how they would smell when

burned.

Hi .....I've seen lavender "grilling" or "fireplace" bundles that look interesting. If you cut the stems, tie them in a bundle and toss them in your fireplace, they're said to scent the room with lavender. I don't have a fireplace so don't know how nice it smells but it's worth a shot. If you don't have one, maybe you know someone who does. Sounds like a nice gift. I've also read that you can toss them into your grill to flavor meats but I've never used lavender for flavor before so don't know what that would be like. Just a thought.....I've seen the fireplace bundles for sale before at gift shops and, if nothing else, they look nice when tied pretty and smell good without burning them! Have fun!

about the Laser printer is exactly what I had thought I read somewhere.

Especially about being able to print "waterproof" labels. And I've

always known how fast they are because I used to work on one when

I was an accountant. So I definitely think that's the route I'll go. I'm

also considering a new computer since the business consultant has

brought that up a few times. And I think I've got a bad spot on my

hard drive because it'll run fine for about a month and then I'll start

getting fatal error messages and have to run Scan Disk and fix the things

that pop up on it. I'm due anyways....I've had this one since 1998 I think

and I think I'd like to consider a Gateway.

If you can get one, I'd say go for it for sure. It would make a much more professional looking label. You might check into the prices of the cartridges when shopping for one so that you're not stuck with one that is outrageously expensive to refill. As far as having two printers connected to one computer, you can purchase another parallel port (it's a card) to add to your computer. One would be lpt1 and the other would be lpt2. That's the only way that I know of to do this. If you buy a new computer, ask if one can be added. Most places will build to suit your needs.

I think you're right about Gateway building to your specs. That's why I think

that is the best route to go. Instead of getting a computer with what comes

standard built in (software, etc.) I think Gateway would be able to help me design

things I would need to help me with "small business" type things on top of the

"usual" things everybody wants on their computer. If I remember right, they have

a business rep at our local mall in Staples or one of those other office product

stores. I think I'll even see if the business consultant that I'm working with will

go with me since he's got a lot of knowledge in that area.

So you know the type, huh? I put off taking her products up to her for a day because

I knew I couldn't spare the time away from work. Even my 13 yr. old daughter has

learned how she is. When I told Kaitlyn I was heading up to Barbara's with her stuff

her comment was, "Oh, oh. See you in about 3 hours." You know she wasn't far off.

I feel like I know more about this woman now than a member of my family. (hehe)

You crack me up! The same thing happened to me yesterday. I've been sick all week with the flu which then turned into bronchitis. Still not feeling very well but had to drop some stuff off right here in town to a very nice woman who is putting together gift baskets to sell. I've talked to her on the phone several times and she's kept me on the line forever but I'd never met her in person. Figured I'd just run in, drop the stuff off and get home and back under a warm blanket with some cough syrup. Nope......she just talked and talked and talked. I was there for more than an hour! Oh dear, I chose a terrible place to get into soaping, didn't I? I'd make a

fourth from Naples...

Sorry to go jumping into this thread like that. I've been a lurker for quite

a while, and while I've been meaning to do an intro post I got caught up in

the holiday's and had trouble just keeping up on the reading. Things have

slowed down now, for a little while anyway, so hi!

At the moment I'm an M & P soaper. I tried a batch of CP but it didn't work

real well and since I don't have a hand blender trace took forever and I just

don't have the patience. I also tried CPHP which came out much better, but

took forever to harden completely because I used Sunflower oil.

Unfortunetaly, the no patience problem still applies there. I also have a

toddler and a fairly small apartment so I've decided to wait on the lye.

Well, I think that's enough babbling for now, I'm sure to do plenty more

later. Even the lurking has made me fond of this list, so I'm sure I'll be

around for a while.

Shaye - I saw her at one of the Naples festivals once a few years ago. She

was selling her soap along the main street just outside of the festival. I

think she did melt and pour. I couldn't stop to talk because I had someone

" booth sitting " while I grabbed a bite to eat but my daughter went to her

booth to check things out and was thrilled because they gave her a long

lavender stem for free! Kids love free stuff! :-) I haven't seen her since

and lost the bookmark to her site. Thanks for sending the link. There's also

another lady who lives in Naples and runs an organic herb farm called

Mountain Creek Herbs. She does cp soap and sells it in some of the nature

stores and local gift shops. She and I have a mutual friend so I've met her

and buy her soap occasionally because I love to sample other's essential oil

blends, etc... She makes the most incredible organic granola I've ever

tasted. A lot of people get us mixed up because she's Mountain Creek and I'm

Naples Creek Soaps. I don't think she has a website but if you're ever in

Naples, stop at Arbor Hill Grapery and get some of her granola. Mmmm......

Yes, she's got one blend of patchouli, lavender and eucalyptus that I love!

I tried to duplicate it but must be putting too much eucalyptus in or

something. I'm not sure where she gets her essential oils but her patchouli

smelled more pungent than mine. I love it! If you've seen her soap at Lori's

than she's probably got her granola there too. You should try it (if you

like that sort of thing).

I think thats the blend I got (I save labels). She called it Secret Garden

Soap... I'll look for the granola next time im there, which isnt very

often.

Yeah! That's the one! Secret Garden. Yes, I have a website

www.naplescreeksoaps.com but I'm working on changing it over the winter.

That's on top of my long list of things to do. I just took the Christmas

stuff off it so it's pretty " bland " right now. Hopefully I'll get it changed

Oh, yes! Virginia! We use to share a room in the shop in Fairport. Got to

know each other while working there during Canal Days! We don't see much of

each other since I usually pay a little extra in the co-op rather than work

Well, thank you Colleen! I'm really bored with the site and sit here every

night playing with graphics, backgrounds, etc.... Just can't find anything I

like. I'm trying to teach myself Paintshop Pro 7 so I can do my own stuff

but I'm not getting very far! :-) I put the logo together from bits and

pieces of clipart but I'm not thrilled with it. Need to liven it up a

little! The camera icon for the pics helped load the pages quicker. Having

one pic per page makes it much nicer when someone is looking at the site

with a slow connection. As you can tell though, I'm not much of a

photographer! :-) Thanks for the compliment!

Hey Cuz

Nice to hear from you again. Congrats on your soaps in the shop. Did you do

consignment with her or did she buy them outright? Make sure you're not shorting

yourself money-wise. It's kind of hard to go upping your prices too much if you find

you shorted yourself. Make sure if you do anything other than soap to sell that your

labeling is done appropriately for the gov't. OK?

Hi everyone, I haven't been on much lately because of my dads illness, but wanted to let you know I still am here reading your letters. I have made a few batches of soap this week because the basement is starting to empty out. I just got a chance to put some of my soaps in a tanning salon here, and I am very excited about it. A friend of mine knew the owner and he asked for me. I dont ever have the nerve to go places and try and sell my soaps. That is why they sit in my basement. But on the first day she sold $45. worth. Not bad, hey. !!!!! Of course when I went back 5 days later she had only sold one bar. But I know it is slow this time of year, and I am sure after they use the bar they bought, some of them will contine to buy. I know what you mean about the "selling" part. I'm the same way. There's a hair

& tanning salon in Herkimer that's quite a busy place. The owner wants to see me

about my things. How did I find out? My son-in-law is a FedEx driver and he's

not shy at all about mentioning my products to businesses he's at. God love him!!

Maybe some day I can afford to have somebody do the sales & marketing for me.

I have only taken my CP and glycerin soaps so far to the tanning salon. I am hoping to get some new things so that they stay interested. I sure hope I can come to the gathering this year and get some new ideas. I wish I could find someone to do my selling and I can just stay home and make my soaps. That is what I like best. Sometimes I can talk a friend into taking some stuff to work with them, and have been pretty lucky there. I am just not a salesperson. Maybe someone can give me some confidence.
