Guest guest
I have just recently found out the name of my disorder. Can you believe that I am 40 years old and was not aware that what I had was not just bad luck. I was told my father had this condition, but unfortunately, I have never met him. Even though I have had approximately four surgeries, the first when I was four or five, the doctors never told me exactly why I had this abnormality or what exactly was wrong. I had conclulded that it was hereditary, but did not know it was a dominant trait. Another fact that I find amazing is my inability to concieve a child. After doing my own research, I have found that infertility is a common sympton of Blephs. Not one fertility expert that my husband and I visited ever mentioned this. I guess it is just such a rare syndrome that many professionals are not familiar with it. I have read some of the messages posted and found a lot of them to be from parents with young children. I understand exactly what you are feeling. I can ecspecially relate to the children. I was there, I remember the looks, the teasing, the questions, the feeling like I was different. I remember people treating me like I was slow or retarded. I assure you I am neither. I want the parents to know that your child can have a bright future. I am successful in business, have a wonderful loving family, including two beautiful adopted children, and one of the best outlooks of anyone I know. My single mother never coddled me, never let me use my condition as an excuse, and taught me to be grateful for the blessings I do have. I would be happy to talk with anyone who would like to chat about this. Take care and keep your head held high! Ps: It always makes me wonder how ironic life can be when you see the people who taunted you as a child, only to find out that they did't fair so well as adults?
