I would suggest you go ahead and try prozac. The role of seritonin in CFS is

unclear --so give it a try.

MY QUESTION FOR YOU IS

WHAT IS ?

Efamol Marine - Action for ME, a UK based organisation have mentioned

this as very helpful with CFS symptoms but the manufacturer recommend taking

8 capsules a day for 12 weeks to build up levels before dropping to 2 a day

from then on. At 10 UKP's (about 18 USD) for 90 capsules this could be

Hi ,

My young daughter had a bad experience with Prozac. She was taking 20

mg. and reacted with the worst sore throat she has ever had. At the

time, I thought the doctor believed in CFS as an organic illness and that

the Prozac would actually be helpful for her symptoms. Well, it turned

out that the doctor thought CFS was an it's-all-in-your-head disease, and

it wasn't until several months later that we caught on, and, thankfully,

converted her to the physical disease model. If you decide you do want

to try Prozac, start with a very low dose (i.e. 1-5 mg.) since CFS

patients tend to be extremely sensitive to new medications. I understand

that there is a liquid form that will allow you to measure such low doses

since the capsules only come in 10 and 20 mg.

Dr. Jaocb Teitelbaum discusses the role of male and female hormones in CFS

in his book. It is available from www.amazon.co.uk if you are interested. It

is well worth reading (don't be put off by it's silly title).

Are you using a smokers patch or Ortho-Evra?

I use ortho-evra and have used creatine on and off without any side

effects.

I'm using the NicoDerm Clear patch, step two! the advantage of the

nicderm is you can cut them and get smaller doses.. and it won't leak.

This way you get more bang for your buck!

I called Nicoderm and asked if I need to take it off to exercise and

they said yes. ( cause it coud causea nicotine overdose) The girl

kindly told me I could re-apply the same patch when I was done!

Also she said that I should consult a doctor about the supplements but

again kindly told me that it's nicotine and if I was a smoker and used

my supplements.. you would think I already had nicotine in my system!

I think that's an ok!

1. Check out Hussman's site. The whole thing is fantastic but the

part you want is the section on How Calories Work and the link to the

BMR calculator. It will give you a pretty accurate calorie range.

http://hussman.org/fitness/

2. The recommendation is generally 1g of protein per pound of body

weight. Someone who has a lot of weight to lose might want to go with

1g of protein per pound of lean mass or goal weight instead. You'd

probably be shooting for something like 120-150g of protein a day if

you're eating 1200-1500 calories. Most female BFLers aim for 20-25g of

protein at each of their six meals.

3. Don't know about supplements and the patch. If you start taking

flax oil, take it and the CLA at a different time than the creatine

because fat can slow creatine uptake.

4. I quit taking CLA because it doesn't really do anything unless

you're a chicken or a rat. Apparently it makes them really buff. :-)

The results have been less than stellar in humans. It's best for

supporting lean mass while you diet or preventing too much fat gain

when you're eating for muscle growth. I find it pretty iffy even on

those counts though.

This is just my personal opinion (but I believe others here share it) - KT will

become more fizzy in the secondary ferment. If you like yours tart, not sweet,

you can let it go for longer than the 7 or so days, but that won't ensure more

fizziness. But every batch is different.

Where I really get the fizziness is when I decant and then add some strawberries

to my bottle (secondary needs to have an airtight seal and then you " burp it "

every day or so - this ensures that it won't explode on you). Some of my

strawberry KT gets so fizzy it fizzes right out of the bottle. It's delicious

and my family loves it too. Others here like using fresh slices of ginger and

say that it makes theirs very fizzy.

Maybe continue to ask around about whether leaving it longer in your original

brew will really make it fizzier or not - and I am not sure that using GT's will

help the cause. Hope you get the results you were looking for!

Questions!

Hello all!

I have read that you can start kombucha by using GT's as a starter. Has

anyone here tried that and if so what was the result? I am trying to get some

carbonation in my kombucha and looking for ideas. I have heard that I need to

ferment longer than my normal 8 days. Then again I read that after 8 days the

benefits of kombucha greatly reduce. The good stuff goes away? Anyway, I was

thinking that maybe I could use a bottle of GT's original and my scoby and

then just

let it ferment longer. Also should I let it sit without the scoby in an

airtight container after brewing for awhile? How long? Anyone that could share

what

you do to get good bubbly, tart kombucha, I would LOVE to hear it? Thanks so

much!

Hello there Trask Family....no...the benefits of Kombucha do not decrease

after brewing for eight days....if that were true, all of those who do

continuous would be in a woeful state. It is at eight days that some of the

beneficial aspects are just starting to appear, not the other way around,

IMHO.

Lack of fizz is usually a lack of yeast....check out Len Porzo's Balancing

Act site for good info. I believe it is a must read for all Kombucha

brewers. Answers most of the commonly asked questions. Below is the URL

which can also be found on the OK site in the files section.

http://www.geocities.com/kombucha_balance/

Go the these sections: INCREASING THE RATIO OF YEAST TO ACETOBACTER

POPULATIONS and INCREASING CARBONATION

I have grown SCOBY from GT's and mad brews from it, but over time I was not

pleased with it and abandoned it. When the brew was as tart as I like it,

it seemed to just not taste as nice as my others.

If you do experiment with this,, please let us know how it goes.

Hello, I just got a call that my ins. approved me for the trial. I was just

wondering if anyone else has been told to go ahead and take your meds that day.

If I do that then I will be close to being out of pain so how will I be able to

tell them anything?

Will someone tell me all the do and donts and tips on how to make sure you

stick to it.?

how much pain were you in after the trial was done?

how long were you in the hospital for the perm. one and if longer than one day

why?

sorry for all the questions...
