Oh no, Carolyn!

I " m sorry to hear about your neck. I Hope it feels

better soon - does heat help at all? I've been having

some trouble w/ my right shoulder, I thought initially

it was just bruised from carrying around my laptop

case on my shoulder - but I think it may be something

more - I'm having trouble doing some things I normally

could do (like clasp my hands behind my back for a

chest stretch). I'm not quite sure what to do about

it - it doesn't hurt all the time, but only when I do

certain moves. I wake up w/ it pretty stiff, too, but

it works itself out. Still, I'm a bit perturbed by

the decrease in range of motion with it. I actually

have a dr's appointment next Friday for a breast exam

prior to my second mammogram (I'm still kind of

worried that they wanted to do a second one on me, but

everyone keeps saying it isn't a big deal and that

they just need to get an accurate

baseline...intellectually, I figure they wouldn't have

asked me to come back in six months if I had something

that was really questionable... but still, I can't

help but worry and besides, who wants to have her

boobs flattened out twice in one year?!) Anyway,

maybe I'll mention my shoulder to her then... long

winded story.

I'm sorry that you're sidelined for now - keep up with

the eating portion of the plan and do what you can

workout wise. I haven't posted on the TotalMakeover

check in, but I did pretty well w/ eating yesterday

and I got pretty close, if not on the money with my

water!

I hear you on the two workouts a day - it is very hard

to do that on a regular basis. I try to get as much

done in my morning session as possible this way there

is no pressure to do an evening workout - about all I

can committ to do in the evening is yoga or Pilates or

something else where I'm lying down.

Take care and feel better soon! Pull out the Ana

Forrest yoga for your neck!

hi donna! yes heat does help... i have a 'magic bag' which i heat in the

microwave and lay it across the sore areas. im not using it right now

though because it is already too hot here...lol. but tonight i will do

that. also i have a hand held massager that i need to dig out and

use. i think that its stress-related as i have been having probs with dh,

have been emotional and not sleeping well. i can actually feel my tight

shoulders creeping up towards my ears. i toss and turn at night when i do

finally pass out im probably laying on my stomach with my head cocked at a

weird angle and laying on it like that for some hours. ouch.

> I've been having

>some trouble w/ my right shoulder,

that is certainly bothersome donna and worth mentioning to the dr since you

will be there anyway.

im surely no expert but it does sound like a strain which will heal in time

if you are easy on it (and stop carrying your comp that way!).

try to talk to your dr about your fears and get some more reassurance on

this. i can understand why you would be worried. do you feel like you

are in the dark about it? like they arent telling you everything? can

ask to see the results of your last test and have them explained to you?

ive never had a mammo so i dont know what is normal/routine or not. im

sorry that im not much help but i am sending you some calming vibes {{{{

Oh, that is true, this is a bad time for needing

heat!!

i think that its stress-related as i have

I'm sorry to hear that!!! You kick his butt for me!

I wonder if my shoulder thing might not be the same,

I've been a bit anxious about some things, too and I

wonder if it is neck related as well and just the

result of sleeping funny - I can't recall injuring it

or having a moment when I realized I did.

Thanks, Carolyn! What they and everyone tells me is

it is pretty standard to get two for the first

go-round just to have an accurate baseline for future

ones. I also had surgery (horrible case of mastitis

after my daughter was born - if I have another I'm not

so sure I'll even try to breastfeed again - it was

very traumatic!) so I suspect the scar tissue is an

issue as well. They keep reassuring me, but I always

keep thinking that doctors make mistakes all the time.

Maybe I've been in the legal field too long! LOL!

this is why i think your shoulder should get better if given time and if

you take it easy on it. since you cant remember injuring it, then your

first, gut, instinct about what happened is probably correct (ie: the

weight of your laptop case)

really good tonight since i dont feel up to doing a 'real' workout.

Carolyn,

Take care of your neck and I hope it feels better soon. Definitely stretch and maybe try some ice (if nothing else it will cool you off in this heat!).

pain in the neck

i couldnt get a second workout done last night, nor get this mornings workout done because i have a painful kink in my neck which is affecting my head, neck, shoulders and upper back.this has happened before and it took a few days of rest before i could carefully workout again. of course im bummed! i even bought an expensive new curvy foam pillow for support while sleeping and that seemed to make it worse. so im sorry to say that im out of action for a little while. i will still work on following bob's diet guidelines though.i think that today i will try to do a series of neck stretches and hopefully tomorrow i can do some easy cardio. i got my order from collage today and there are quite a few things in there that i should be able to do once the pain eases off a bit. prone abwork is definately out of the question but one of my new george foreman workouts has standing abs so i can try to do that. i should also be able to do a lower body workout or stepping without arm movements.so, i will report in once im able to actually do something without this sharp pain. also im doubting that 2 workouts a day are going to work for me. i felt alot of pressure to get last nights workout done and then felt alot of guilt when it didnt happen. i think that it might be best if i could combine all of the workouts into one morning session or just go back to my usual workout schedule. i will give it some more thought while im out of action.:*carolyn.-- No virus found in this outgoing message.Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.Version: 7.0.323 / Virus Database: 267.9.1/51 - Release Date: 7/18/2005

Donna,

Feel better soon! And get a rolling case for that computer!

As for the other, I wouldn't worry about it. When I first got mine done, they did like 3 of them. (I thought I was going to die!) The first one, they did see a lump, but I'd had it since I was 16 and told them as such. The removed it and then did 2 more, because they didn't see anything on the first one after the surgery, so they wanted to double check and make sure. Still didn't see anything, but they said it would give them a good thing to look back on since they had two with the same reading--nothing. Apparently that is standard to do two to get the baseline. Don't worry about it, because I'm sure it is nothing. If it were something, they would have gone in immediately to remove it and then had you do two more for a baseline.

Hi Carolyn,

I hope your neck gets better soon, that has to be not only painful, but very frustrating that you can't workout like you want to. You are smart to take it easy.

Get well!

  • 3 years later...

Has anyone else had fusions or replacements of cervical bones?  And the scary

question is:  can the irritation of bulging discs or arthritic conditions to the

nerves in the neck area cause RSD in arms or legs to move to the neck area?  I

have RSD all the way into the sciatic nerve in my thigh, and neck pain from

early arthritis aggravated by an auto accident.  My RSD pain has worsened or

changed somehow since my SCS implant in June'08, and I no longer have 90%

relief from the SCS.  I'm now afraid to have neck surgery, or to have carpal

tunnel repair done for fear that the nerve disease will somehow spread to these

areas.  I'm a scaredy cat in way too much pain.  Thanks for your help.  This

group is awesome!!  D in Ohio

Joe you are wright about more than one opinion, I'm seeing my PM Dr

tomorrow and talk about it and I am going to another Surgeon as soon as

I can get in and see what he says. It takes time to get all that done

but it is a must. And the surgery is not bad they got it down

pat. You go in the morning and your home the next day. Living with the

daily Pain is worse than the surgery.
