Guest guest
The sixth annual Autism One Conference returns to Chicago May 23 - 25. McCarthy will be the keynote speaker. Dr. Jackie Marquette, who was our Ask The Expert last November, will also be sharing her insights in the Adolescence/Adulthood track of presentations. Developing Strengths, Interests, and Gifts: Increasing Positive Daily Adaptations and Decreasing Rejection and Isolation in Teens and Adults with ASD This session will present one of Marquette's (2008) dissertation research findings. Based upon the goal of 15 families who sought community living, all young adults in the study identified and applied a strength or gift that promoted self-value, personal growth, inclusion, and acceptance among others. Outcomes in employment, self- employment, higher education/training, a hobby, living with increased independence and general well-being became successful realities for these young adults with ASD. Genuine examples with suggestions are offered. For further details, visit www.autismone.org Withers
