One aspect of my research is in the areas of Gamma Ray Bursts and Star Formation. With the HETE II satellite scheduled to launch in May 2000, there is added urgency to make detailed calculations of the broad band emission in radio, optical and X-rays immediately following the burst of gamma rays, on time scales that HETE II will be sensitive to, namely, seconds to minutes. Early emission should help us pin down the mass distribution surrounding gamma ray bursters, which has implications for the nature of their progenitors. In the area of star formation, I am involved in two projects. The first is to extend my calculations of multiple star formation in axisymmetric magnetized clouds to those without axisymmetry, aiming at elucidating the role of magnetic fields in forming multiple stars and cluster systems. In the second project, I will explore the global properties of MHD outflows from accretion disks and stellar surfaces, using the numerical code I developed with Krasnopolsky and Blandford of Caltech over the last few years.
