PSP stands for polysaccharide peptide. This compound is an all-natural extract from a mushroom called Coriolus versicolor, strain Cov-1. Chinese common name called Yun-zhi (Cloud mushroom). In A. D. 890s all the Zhi family is considered to have the effect of supporting health and energy and strengthening physique, and benefiting spirit and vital energy. PSP is not an ordinary herb water or alcohol extract. It is extracted from deep layer cultivated mycelia which are the sprouts of the mushroom. It is an intracellular ingredient (egg white without egg shell), that removed all cell wall¡¦s woody fiber which is impossible for human digestion or absorption, its medicinal ingredients are then isolated and purified. The yield of extraction is only 5%.

PSP is an anticarcinogen and immunological regulator identified as a polysaccharide peptide. It composed of six monosaccharides: galactose, glucose, mannose, arabinose, xylose and rhamnose. The mushroom has historically attracted attention as a health-oriented food not only in China and Japan but also world wide. The anti-tumor effect of various kinds of mushroom components have been noted during the last decaded. In 1965 when Japanese scientists first extracted Yun-zhi, it was PSK, soon it was approved to be used for a number of cancer, and is covered by Japanese health insurance. Now it is one of the most used cancer therapeutic substance. PSP, has been proved to be effective against tumor both in animal experiments and in clinical patients. PSP was given to 485 patients with cancers of esophagus, stomach and primary lung cancer.
