On August 7, 2000, this letter was first posted to cures for canceregroups.

Dear Dr. Gammill,

This letter is in response to your two postings of August 6.

Dear Dr. Gammill, if you had read my website, The Cure for Cancer?, with any degree of understanding and without prejudice, you would have seen that I recommend the use of 'Equal'/L-cysteine only when 'pure' Thioproline is not available. As I state on page 9 (left hand side pagination):

" This is all well and good, but what is a person to do if he or she cannot obtain this chemical from these foreign countries and does not know how to prepare chemically SARAH RATNER'S formula? "

I cite in The Cure for Cancer? two cases in which remission occurred after people with Cancer (esophageal and prostate) swallowed the combination of Equal/L-cysteine & vitamin C.

Dr. Gammill, this is what happens in the human body when formaldehyde (Equal) and L-cysteine are combined -

" .....Finally at physiological pH (j.s.r. - the normal state of the body) the spontaneous condensation of formaldehyde and cysteine to form thiazolidinecarboxylic acid (j.s.r. - Thioproline) is so rapid that when these two compounds are added to mitochondria the metabolism of cysteine is for all practical purposes entirely by way of the thiazolidine. The formation of thiazolidinecarboxylic acid 'in vivo' (j.s.r. - in the body) therefore provides a possible mechanism for the detoxification of exogenous and endogenous formaldehyde. "

Dr. Gammill, you are the expert on chemistry. Am I right or wrong about this? The aforementioned passage is found in the 'Journal of Nutrition', Volume 66, 1958, page 617.

Thus far no one has told me that they have suffered any severe side effects from swallowing the Equal/L-cysteine & vitamin C combination. Unfortunately, Mr. Jerry Rollins did not ultimately benefit from it; however, he suffered no side effects; on September 5, 1999, he posted:

" So....for better or worse I'm finished with the 12 day ' Cure'. Except for the closely scheduled regimen it was not harmful in anyway I can as yet determine. No kidney aches, bladder strain, headache, upset stomach....as a matter of fact I don't see how it can do me any good if there's not some suffering. Isn't that a fact of life...no gain without pain? Tuesday I'll have a PSA test so we'll all see. Won't it be fantastic if I can stop cantron, etc. and not worry about debilitating hormone followed by chemo. Of course the '12 day' is chemo but apparently a harmless and quick one. It's nice to know there are many out there monitoring my progress. It it's worked all I'll need do is take what's necessary to keep my immune system in top shape. Best, JR "

Of course, anecdotal cases are a poor way to go about establishing a medical fact.

Dr. Gammill, if you had been reading my postings without prejudice you would have seen that I have been imploring (since November, 1997) the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to repeat a 1979 Spanish clinical trial in which these results were obtained with Thioproline alone -

" Definite signs of activity were observed.....in other solid tumours, such as breast, renal, ovary, thyroid, and parotid cancer. "

" .....Histological studies showed involution and transformation into low-grade malignancies and disappearance of evidence of cancer. "

It has been my goal to see the NIH repeat this clinical trial, but this time the Cancer patients would swallow (no injections would be necessary) 'mega-doses' of Thioproline and vitamin C and 'above average' amounts of magnesium/zinc/manganese.

Dr. Gammill, is this asking too much?

If my research is flawed, the NIH could cite where it is faulty, and they could tell me that it would be a waste of time to pursue it any further. However, the NIH has never definitively responded to me.

No one has ever proved to me where any aspect of my research is wrong; consequently, I must assume that all of it is right. If this be the case, then the World has at its disposal the cure for Cancer - Thioproline & vitamin C & magnesium/zinc/manganese.

Dr. Gammill, in one of your postings you state:

" Some years back one of the Tijuana Clinics started selling it (j.s.r. - Thioproline). They tried to make a go of it, but it is just not a cure..... "

Dr. Gammill, the time has come for you to either put up or shut up. Would you please cite for me the source from which you obtained the aforementioned data? Please tell me the name of the Journal, the date of the article and the page or pages on which it is printed. Dr. Gammill, if it is anecdotal data, would you please supply me with as much information as you can.

Dr. Gammill, in my opinion, between 1980 and 1983 the scientific community put forth a puny, paltry effort to capitalize on the fabulous results of the 1979 Spanish research -

" .....disappearance of evidence of cancer. "

Finally, the medical community settled for scanty, skimpy research which cast a negative light on the Spanish research.

Consequently, the medical community lost interest in Thioproline as a treatment for Cancer.

All of the details are in my November 7, 1999 posting, 'To Dr. Varmus, Director, National Institutes of Health (NIH)'. I am re-posting that letter at this time to cures for canceregroups and to you personally, Dr. Gammill.

I find one of the most poignant passages to be the words of the co-author of the 1979 Spanish study, Dr. Gosalvez; he stated:

" .....However, reports of our later work given at scientific meetings or in the pipeline, confirm that thioproline does induce reverse transformation and that the whole concept, despite its complexities, is promising. "

A little bit of history - Before the Spanish clinical trial took place in late 1979, certain results were published in the March, 1979, issue of the 'Proceedings of the American Association for Cancer Research', Volume 20, page 17; the research had been funded by the U.S. National Cancer Institute under Contract NO1-CM-53792; the researcher was Gosalvez of the Bioquimica Experimental, Clinica Puerta de Hierro, Madrid-35, Spain. The following words appear in 'AACR ABSTRACTS, 1979', No. 68.

(As far as I can determine, neither the article or the abstract appears in 'MedLine'.)

The title of the article is, 'THE PLASMA MEMBRANE AS A TARGET IN ANTICANCER CHEMOTHERAPY'; Gosalvez wrote this:

" .....The screening included the test of compounds: 1) in cell capping of immuno-globulins; 2) in the differentiation of the mold Dictyostelium discoideum and 3) in the restoration of contact inhibition of Hela cells in tissue culture. One compound out of 500, thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid (Thioproline), was active in the three screening steps and was able to restore contact inhibition in Hela cells in tissue culture. This compound has been brought to the clinics in Spain in patients of advanced metastasic progressing cancer, under the name of Norgamem. Norgamem could represent the first non-cytotoxic anticancer agent which has the plasma membrane as target. "

To repeat, this result was obtained during the 1979 Spanish clinical trial after Thioproline ('One compound out of 500...') had been administered to Cancer patients

" .....Histological studies showed involution and transformation into low-grade malignancies and disappearance of evidence of cancer. "

However, let me give the scientific/medical community the benefit of a doubt and say that they left no stone unturned in exploring the potentiality of Thioproline as a Cancer cure.

Why then did Thioproline arouse the interest of the Nobel Prize winner, Professor V. Schally and his colleagues? In 1994 and 1997 they published articles which stated that significant anti-Cancer results were obtained in the laboratory with compounds which incorporated Thioproline.

Dr. Gammill, if a Nobel Prize winning scientist is interested in the possible effectiveness of Thioproline as a Cancer cure, shouldn't the rest of the World be curious?
