Well, folks, I just received my " Grow-your-Own " kit for Agaricus Blazei

Mulli mushrooms from http://www.mushroomadventures.com

And, I just started growing them. Here's what this is about.

1. A. Blazei Mushrooms are quickly gaining a reputation for being a cancer

fighter (see the foods page on my web site at

http://cures for cancer.evangelist.net and click on the agaricus link) because of

the high content of immune boosterBeta Glucan. They are also good for other

illnesses.

2. A. Blazei mushrooms are native to Brazil, and it is difficult to

cultivate them elsewhere except in special cultivation farms with climate

controls. But, they are being cultivated in Japan, and the price there is

very high. Product is shipped dry in 100g to 1Kg bags or boxes.

3. Japanese companies are very much involved with A. Blazei production,

even in Brazil. It even appears that Japanese and Chinese companies are

trying to capture the world market. Entrepreneurs there would drive the

price up by depleting world supply.

4. While growing conditions are not perfect in my bathroom, since I have

two bathrooms and never use one of them, I have a cardboard growing box in

the bathtub. This came about as follows:

A couple of weeks ago while I was researching A. Blazei for my web site, I

ran across Dan Simoni, owner of Mushroom Adventures in San Francisco CA. He

provides mushroom growing kits. I asked if he had Agaricus Blazei and to my

surprise, he did! So I struck a deal with him and he sent me a kit. I just

received it yesterday.

The kit consists of a cardboard box about 2 ft x 1 ft x 1.5 ft lined with a

polyethylene bag and filled with compost that has white fibrous

moldy-looking stuff growing in it. On top of that is a poly ziplok bag

containing a couple of pounds of peatmoss. The compost is about a foot deep

You open the box, roughen up the surface of the compost, put 5 cups of water

in the peatmoss bag, stir that up with a cup of the compost till the water

is absorbed, then spread it on the surface of the compost, and sprinkle

another cup of water on top. Then, you put the box out of direct sunlight

in a place where the temperature will be between 65 and 74 degrees F, and

let it sit for 2 to 4 weeks, daily checking to make sure the peat moss is

kept moist. You spray it with water as necessary, but do not soak or drench

it. If it gets too dry, warm, or cool the mushrooms will not grow, and more

extreme temperature or moisture will kill the mycelium (mushroom culture).

Now, I am waiting. I will let you know when mushrooms pop up.

Dan says it is difficult to get high yield from the musroom kit he has for

A. Blazei, probably because of climate. But other mushroom varieties grow

well in the kits. You can get 4 or 5 crops from a kit, and then you dump

the compost into your flower or vegetable garden, or turn the kit into a

herb farm by planting herbs in it and setting it near a sunny window.

If these kits can be made to work for A. Blazei, you can possibly save some

money and have the world's healthiest mushrooms growing in your bathtub or

family room. If you have cancer, you will probably need a much bigger

quantity of the mushrooms than even 3 or 4 kits could provide, assuming they

produce well.

Bob, wouldn't it be simpler to buy these in capsule or pill form..or

wouldn't they be as good? And in the bath-tub, or etc, if not growing out

doors do you keep a special light on them..and what do you use a thermometer

around the clock to check the temperature. Goodness to mercy Bob, this

sounds harder than taking care of infants..Less stress I'm sure. Then what

happens when the mushrooms fail to go, there goes more money down the drain,

and the healing isn't any further ahead.

Why don't you just put up a green house in the back yard, and produce

enough to sell on the market? DAh! Just kidding, but good for thought and a

laugh that cures all things.

Have a nice day Yaw hear?
