A C A L L T O A R M S -- I received this message from my good friend

and avid FSU supporter Bruce and thought it was important enough

to

us all to pass on:

Proposed legislation now in Congress -- Bill 602P -- would permit the

federal government to charge a 5 cents for every email delivered, by

billing Internet Service Providers at source. The consumer would then be

billed in turn by the ISP.

The Postal Service claims that lost revenue due to the proliferation of

email is costing nearly $230,000,000 in revenue per year. You may have

noticed their recent ad campaign " There is

nothing like a letter " . Since the average citizen received about 10

pieces

of email per day in 1998, the cost to the typical internet user would be

50 cents per day, or over $180 dollars per year.

Once e-mail rates are tampered with, use of the internet will become

cost-prohibitive for many Americans. Republican Congressman Tony Schnell

has even suggested a $20-40 per month surcharge (!) on all Internet

service above and beyond the government's proposed email charges.

Please send this e-mail to all your friends and relatives and ask them to

contact their congressmen and say " No! " to Bill 602P.
