Dear Forum members,

List of Indian Civil Society organizations not in consultative status

with the Economic and Social Council that have been approved for

accreditation to the high-level international intergovernmental event

on HIV/AIDS including its preparatory process by Member States, 26

February 2001.

1.SANGRAM

The purpose of this rural based organization working in Sangli

district of the state of Maharashtra, India is to assist in all ways

rural women who want to improve their condition socially,

educationally, culturally and in the area of health. It has been

working with women in prostitution and sex work for the past nine

years, in the field of HIV prevention and care. Three years ago, the

organization expanded its work to include rural women and young

persons within its work on sexual health education.

2.Blood Donors Organisation for Social Service (BOSS)

The organization aims to provide advance information, preventive

measures HIV/AIDS and to promote the dissemination of information and

knowledge to all segments of society. In particular, it encourages

and educates voluntary blood donors on safe blood donation.

3.United Evangelical Lutheran Church (India)

Membership: national

The organization focuses on education, gender, justice, health,

youth, children and ecology. Under it's the National Lutheran Health

and Medical Board; it set up an AIDS desk in 1989 as a Church

response to the AIDS epidemic. It undertakes the prevention and care

programmes in several states in country, particularly for women and

children infected with HIV.

4.Naz Foundation (India) Trust

The primary objective is to serve communities by responding to issues

that are ignored, denied or inadequately addressed by the government,

the public, the media and other non-governmental health and social

welfare agencies. It has designed a service delivery network that

caters to prevention, awareness, education as well as care and

support, with major focus on sexual health and sexuality issues.

5.Lawyers Collective HIV/AIDS

Membership: national

The objectives of the organization include providing support and

legal aid, advice and services for people living with HIV/AIDS. It

promotes awareness of HIV/AIDS related legal and ethical issues among

lawyers, judiciary and legislators, organizations working on AIDS,

health and fundamental rights, policy makers and people living with

HIV/AIDS. It also advocates for appropriate policy and legal changes

to address issues of discrimination against people living with

HIV/AIDS.

6.Gujarat AIDS Awareness & Prevention Unit

Gujarat AIDS Awareness and Prevention Unit is a NGO working in the
