Guest guest
, How goes it there on the producer?. I'm just back from EG and spent 2 days onshore to look at Dr 's clinic, local hospital ect. I was hoping to go to the MOBIL clinic but was a holiday (Immaculate Conception Day!!). Hotel wildlife was interesting, thought about collecting the leaches that were homing in on me for medical research!! Triton now have the FPSO Sanje Berge on location and manned by US outfit there. Guest guest
So are we saying that as an ex services equuivalent (as per the ACOP) I can't apply ? Surely that doesn't come under equal opportunities ....... wonder what an employment tribunal would say. Have never understood this thing about nurses only. I thought we were one and the same if you could pass the offshore medics course. What actually seperates the two ? Please please ... don't want to go into a them and us theme labelling all and sunder with the old tar covered brush. Just wondered why and would it stand in a court of law. have a nice day all ... mail offlist if you have to. TC+
Guest guest
Nurses have seams in their stockings, military medics just wear plain! --------------- Never worn stockings in my life - that I'm prepared to admit to anyway! The Petrofac description was a revelation to me as I've been asking for a job description from them for ages! They do employ ex forces people as long as they have the medic's course - my back-to-back is ex forces, as are at least two others they employ. Guest guest
Funny you should comment on nurses being more handsome...... Just the other day I was talking to Tim Cranton about wearing a dress - go for it Tim (or is it Tina) - personally I'll stick to being plain old rugged!! Sorry Tim - looks like your secret could be out ;-) On a more serious note - MNSL insist on their medics being nurses in the Beryl Field, but not in the Thames - who knows why - we don't!! Guest guest
I don't have the 5 yrs oil industry experience( but have all the rest as well as 12 years in A & E) so I'm out of the running as well. Such is life. ---------------- I wouldn't give up just yet, Petrofac employ people with little offshore experience - my relief had only a couple of months under his belt when he arrived. Stress you're a & E experience and ensure you are computer literate in at least the Word and Excel sections of Microsoft Office - hat seems to be a standard these days. The Registered Nurse qualification may be a request of the client, as Petrofac are - whatever they say - merely a body-shop. Dave

Guest guest
Like I said Bill - who knows why..... I know that each time they have had to find a new medic during the last few years (which has been often!) they have insisted on RN/RGN. Maybe they would be better looking into why they need to keep finding replacements rather than what side of the fence they come from...... On the other hand maybe they should be more specific and only use RMN's or RSCN's as that is what the place really needs - go figure!! Now, about this vacancy - does anyone out there have any idea where it is and what sort of rotation it's on etc? Guest guest
My understanding is that companies prefer Nurses, as they are subject to a higher level of professional accountability - i.e. If they diddled the CD book, they could be reported to the NMC/UKCC and struck off the register, preventing them from practising... Non-Nursey types can just move on to the next job... I might be wrong, but that's the way it's been explained to me... Cheers, Ross. =========================================== Date: Mon, 23 Jun 2003 16:11:13 +0100 From: " Olley " <david.olley@...> Subject: RE: Re: Job Vacancy Have never understood this thing about nurses only. Guest guest
I don't doubt the professionalism and training of S.A Paramedics. Being cynical I might point out that in my experience salaries offered to S.A Nationals are a hell of a lot lower than those offered to U.K and U.S Nationals; this might be a more realistic appraisal of why certain companies are recruitng from S.A! > Well, paramedics over here in South Africa are highly trained (CCA`s and > more so National Diploma paras, and in my biased opinion, have larger scope > of work than UK and US paras) We are accountable to the health professions > council of South Africa and can be struck off the register and not allowed > to practice. Guest guest
Nothing cynical about it really. What I am glad about though is through all the red tape I encountered whilst in the UK, the courses that are supposed to be done, the regulations involved with offshore medical work etc etc , UK companies will still look at recruiting an SA paramedic. That says alot about the quality of our profession down this side of the world and it is nice to be recognized for it Cheers Ben.
