I received a Parental Annual Notice from my daughter's school notifying me

of my rights pertaining to my child being in school. Within this list it

talked about the school having to cooperate with the health department for

prevention and control of communicable diseases " to administer an immunizing

agent to any pupil whose parents have consented in writing to the

administration of such immunizing agent. "

I may be a little paranoid here, but I'm wondering that if there was some

kind of disease " outbreak " like meningitis and the health dept. determined

that every kid needed to be vaccinated, would they really pay attention to

the parental consent or just go ahead and line all the kids up for shots? If

they deem it an emergency, how much time would they take to call the parents

and get consent in writing? I already have my child's vaccine exemption in

her file at her school, but this is just to exempt her from the vaccines

required to enter school. She goes to a small charter school in which I

don't think they would do something like giving kids shots without getting

parental consent, but still I feel like I need to write a note or something

to the office stating that in the event of any disease " emergency " , I do not

consent to my daughter being immunized or given antibiotics or any drugs.

Do you think this is a good idea for parents to do or will it just draw more

attention to the fact that the children are not vaccinated and they may

single them out as " risks " ? Do we NOT have to worry about this because they

really are obligated and know that they must get parental consent first?
