Who helps?

When someone gets a dreadful disease like diphtheria, measles etc., doctors

try and at least help. When someone has an adverse reaction to a vaccine,

where is the help? Everyone tries to cover it up.

I know from personal experience.

No need to die

People with preventable diseases always make me sad. Particularly children.

They didn¹t need to get sick.

Recently we had two young children in ICU at Whangarei Hospital. Both

children needed tubes down their throats to breath and both were at death¹s

door. One had tetanus and the other had Hib epiglottitis. Both were also

unvaccinated.

Vaccine-preventable diseases still kill people in Northland. For example a

48-year-old unvaccinated Whangarei man died shortly after catching hepatitis

B in March this year. A 28-year-old unvaccinated Whangarei mother died from

the same disease in 1996.

It is estimated that there are 1,500 hepatitis B carriers in Northland and

two to three Northlanders die each year from chronic hepatitis B.

In the last ten years I have seen dramatic changes in some of these

vaccine-preventable diseases in Northland. We got rid of hepatitis A through

a vaccine campaign in 1998. Only unvaccinated people now catch life

threatening diseases like tetanus, Hib or hepatitis B in Northland.

After seeing what these diseases can do, I have no doubt at all about the

value of vaccination. Talk to your doctor or nurse if you require more

information.
