Guest guest
Dear List, 26.7.2001 Francine Yurko has just advised me that my letter to the US Mothering Magazine has been published in Edition 107. I don't know if anything was cut out. I thought the list may be interested. Sincerely, Maureen Letters, Mothering Magazine, PO Box 1690, Santa Fe, NM 87507 United States 23.3.2001 Dear Sirs, A letter by Alan Yurko telling his story of innocence of the accusation of Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) was published in your March/April issue. Australia is one of many countries where support for Alan Yurko is multiplying. Alarmingly however, he is one of many innocent parents and child care nannies around the world who are being accused of this Syndrome. I have had first-hand legal experience of such cases as I am a para/legal/vaccine researcher at s Law Firm, Sydney, who acted on behalf of a father accused of SBS in 1995. The father was found 'not guilty' following medical evidence tendered in court in 1998 identifying underlying medical problems exacerbated by a serious vaccine adverse event. The worrisome aspect of the diagnosis of SBS by coroners, forensic pathologists and other medical specialists is that they focus their entire attention on this one medical hypothesis and ignore many other idiopathic causes (including vaccination) of death/injury. Following any medical observation of co-existing sub-dural and retinal haemorrhages in a baby the conclusion is that these haemorrhages are distinctly characteristic of SBS. In other words where the facts fit the theory accept them without any further medical investigation into the cause. The status of the medical profession is therefore lessening because of their failure to profess fallibility in their diagnosis of this syndrome. Accusations of SBS do not occur solely following the death of a baby. Even though a baby may survive some medical trauma (including vaccination) parents are accused of SBS. Inevitably government child care protection units become involved in these cases and this intervention becomes a living 'nightmare' for the accused parents. These units appear to have their own clique of preferred medical professionals who support them. Perhaps the motivation is 'job protection' rather than 'child protection'. Alan Yurko and his family are not alone in their suffering and struggle for justice. May he and others garner the necessary moral, financial, legal and expert medical support they need to prove their 'innocence' from false accusations of SBS.
