Guest guest
Sounds like she is reacting badly to something in your diet - my daughter did the same thing. She reacted badly to dairy and caffeine, even the tiniest amounts. She didn't do it every time either, so I don't think the formula is the best indicator of what she can tolerate. She may be having problems with anything, most common problem givers are; dairy, wheat, soy, caffeine.... I'd try eliminating them and see if she improves. I'd also stop giving formula, it could jeopardize your nursing relationship at this point. Good luck! My first was > so easy...she is not easy.... > Any ideas? > > , I've been nursing my baby for two years. He had the same type problems, this is what I did. I stopped eating dairy products. Because of a fast letdown I released some of the milk myself before feeding him. Because the first milk they are getting has a lot of water, I started to feed him from the same breast for two feedings, then switched to the other breast for two feedings. I'm still doing this. The reason is the hind milk which is richer and has more fat. If you think you have a yeast infection in the nipple or the baby has thrush then acidopholus will help. I would check with the doc. on the amount and baby's age. My son and I had this problem only for a short time and it wasn't severe. Breastfeeding is the most rewarding thing you can do for both you and your daughter. I had a lot of problems for about the first month and I was ready to give up. I'm so GLAD I didn't. I tried nursing my other son who is 15 now and, he reacted so bad to my milk. I to tried formula and he seemed to do better. Don't let that lull you into a false sense of security. After I stopped nursing and started the formula for about 2 weeks, he became allergic to the formula. Then he was on almost every formula they made, he reacted to everything. I'm not trying to scare you, my oldest was allergic to 50 or 60 different things at the time. My little boy has some problems with dairy, but that's about it. He is so much healthier than his brother. Sorry for the book I'm writing. As you can see I'm very passionate about this subject. Good luck and if you have any questions you can e-mail me anytime. Guest guest
Contact the La Leche League in your area. They should be listed in the phone book. Also, check what you are eating. Stuff that will give you gas, like milk, onions, lettuce, etc..will give her gas. Some people have to cut dairy out of their diet completely. You are doing the right thing. Breast milk is the BEST milk for your baby. Sherri pkoschak@... wrote: > My daughter is 3 weeks old and she spits up more than any baby I have > ever been around. Guest guest
My first spit up like the exorcist! I have overactive letdown. It was going in so fast that it was too hard to keep it in. Two things that worked for me: -express some milk first, then nurse babe -nurse for about 5 minutes, then break for a minute, start again The baby just needs to adjust to your letdown. There is also very good info on www.mothering.com on " The getting started & overcoming difficulties " forum.

Guest guest
Breastfeeding can cause gas because latching and relatching can let air in. My baby spit up a lot. I took her to the doc and everything. She eventually stopped. Do not worry about it. After you feed her, wait at least 10 minutes before laying her down. If you have a bouncy seat, swing or car seat carrier sit her in there and let her sleep. It helps keep the food down (at least that is what the doctor said). >From: pkoschak@... >Reply-Vaccinations >Vaccinations >Subject: OT: Breastfeeding Woes? Guest guest
She is right about the formula. We mother's really doubt our ability to provide nutrition for our young. When the first thing happens we are quick to throw a bottle in their mouth. I know cause I did it. Than I realized that I needed to reprogram myself. If the baby is happy and healthy, it is doing fine. >From: Shelby <helminger@...> >Reply-Vaccinations >Vaccinations >Subject: Re: OT: Breastfeeding Woes? Guest guest
So what have you found out? My second was extremely sensitive to dairy and wouldn't sleep(20 minute naps) and cried and spit up smelly curdy stuff and runny diapers(ok, bf baby diapers usually are but these were worse than my first) and after a week of no dairy he was like a normal baby! What a relief . The LLL advice was great as it could be one or a number of factors. A ped will most likely advise formula so get expert help...LLL. As you can tell, I haven't been on in awhile so I hope by now things are great for you1 Laurie<Oh boldml@...
