Guest guest
, I, too, got my period shortly after birth, in spite of exclusive breastfeeding. However, I'm not sure if heavy cramping should be ignored. (By this I mean you may want to call your gynecologist or midwife.) Anyone? Guest guest
Oops! Ok, let me refrase this....I usually get heavy cramping the first two days of my period...so, this is pretty normal for me. It's not so bad that I'm hunched over or can't get out of bed --- but it is very uncomfortable. The bleeding isn't outrageous either...just heavy the first two days, then tapers off. -OH >From: " Sandy Mintz " <sandym@...> >Reply-Vaccinations ><Vaccinations > >Subject: RE: OT-Cramps! Guest guest
First, make sure you aren't having complications. A good friend of mine was having the same problem and they found that part of the placenta had not come out. Next, I have had bad cramps from the start of my periods (as a teenager) and even now that I've had a baby I still have them. My mother was lucky and her bad cramps went away after the first child, but I'm not so lucky. Here is what I found REALLY works: Avoid caffeine and exercise. Here is my story. I decided to get healthy and stopped drinking the diet Pepsi and started exercising every day on my mini-trampoline (jogging to favorite songs I had taped). I started with 10 minutes and worked my way up to 45 minutes. I would even do 10 or 15 minutes first thing in the morning and found that it woke me up much better than caffeine. Anyway, it took a while to take affect, but after several months I noticed my cramps were better, then a few months later, they were totally GONE! Yes, Gone! I would have my period and didn't even know it was happening. No headache, no bloating, no cramps, no tiredness. Well then I abruptly quit my exercise program and started back on the pop. It took about 3 to 6 months for the cramps etc. to come back, but they slowly re-occurred. Just for the fun of it, I ended up repeating the whole scenario a second time (both exercising on the mini-trampoline daily and no caffeine, and stopping the program) and once again I had the same results. It took several months for the good benefits to kick in, and several months for the bad ones to catch up. But I am not lying when I tell you that on this routine I had ABSOLUTELY NO CRAMPS OR SYMPTOMS OF MY PERIOD WHATSOEVER! The mini-trampoline is great for exercise. You don't have to push yourself too hard because it does most of the work by rebounding you. Just jog lightly until you can work your way up to a faster pace. Start slow and for only a few minutes and work up from there. I have a heavy duty mini-tramp that I purchased used from a lady who weighed over 200 pounds. It is wonderful and will hold up forever! I have used other cheap brands in the past and have always had the springs rip out. I have about 10 mini-tramps in the basement that I've gone through, with lots of parts from them, but my trusty heavy duty one has been going for years so I'm going to throw everything else out. Guest guest
I know I already sent out an answer, but your symptoms are exactly the same as mine are. Heavy cramping the first couple of days - always normal for me. Very uncomfortable, moderately heavy bleeding on the first couple of days. As I stated before, ALL of this went completely away when I avoided caffiene and exercised daily. I also believe drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water a day does wonders for the body. HTH M. Hi , Not sure when you had your baby, but if you're getting a lot of clotty material then there is a possibility of retained placenta, especially if your milk supply isn't great. But if bleeding is normal (even if rather heavy) and milk supply fine, it's unlikely. Never hurts to get it checked out though. Did you have an easy birth? I have had dreadful periods since my third miscarriage. I hoped having my daughter nearly four years ago would put it right, but it hasn't, in fact, it got worse. Until recently, I couldn't really leave my bathroom for the first three days of my period, it was so bad. Scan showed up fibroid, and I didn't want to have any hormone therapy as I am still breastfeeding my daughter. I found a good medical herbalist who is qualified in gynaecology and obstetrics and started a course of herbs with him. I have only had two cycles since starting, but the herbs are working wonders. My cramping is down around 50% or more, and bleeding is much reduced too. He prescribed Nettle, Yarrow, Cramp Bark, Wild Yam, and Vitex Agnus Castus (Chaste- berry) pre-menstrually. He says around four months of treatment for full benefit. All the herbs I'm taking are compatible with breastfeeding. Try and find a good medical herbalist. Not sure what they practise as in the US though - could be naturopaths, who in the UK use herbs, homoeopathy and osteopathy as well as nutritional therapy. I agree with 's posting about reducing/eliminating caffeine from your diet. Cutting back on the theobromine in chocolate may also help. Drink plenty of water (five pints a day, if you can), get steady, regular exercise. One final thing. As a reflexologist, we get many women with thyroid dysfunction who present with period problems. It is typical of a slightly underactive thyroid gland, and this never functions properly for a couple of years after giving birth. The elevated prolactin levels from breastfeeding can also throw a spanner in the works. This is another line you could try. Sorry I can't offer to treat you... :0)! HTH. Guest guest
Chiropractor and /or massage therapist just before period is due. Mine are so much easier while BFing and don't anticiapate them when she weans. Mayeb I'll be preggers before then and won't have to worry! But a chiropractor has helped loads when I wasn;t still nursing. And of course a HP could be sought for a remedy. Laurie<Oh boldml@... Guest guest
I know there are people that swear eating more soy helped relieve their monthly pain. There is a soy board on vegsource.com where I'm sure you can find more info. -Merry > Chiropractor and /or massage therapist just before period is due.
