World Vision roots for child rights

By Allan Kisia

The President of World Vision International, Mr Dean Hirsch, wants the Government and the Church to ensure that children’s rights are protected.

Hirsch, who is in the country for a meeting with church leaders, also asked the Government to use available resources to ensure all children live happily. He said the leaders were deeply concerned with injustices inflicted on children by child labour, poverty, HIV\Aids and other forms of exploitation.

"Every child has the right to live happily.

The Government should ensure the welfare of children is enhanced," he said during a breakfast meeting.

Catholic Archbishop Ndingi Mwana a’ Nzeki, Presbyterian Church of East Africa moderator Githii were among those who attended the meeting.

Hirsch commended the efforts made by various churches in the country to protect children.

World Vision has partnered with churches to respond to the effects of the Aids scourge.

The denominations involved include the African Inland Church, the Methodist Church, the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Anglican Church of Kenya and the Redeemed Gospel Church.
