Guest guest
LAKE FELLOWSHIP CENTRE P.O. BOX 3295 – 40100 8th Feb 2006 www.lakecentre.longrange.org Our Reaction to the Drought problem in Kenya We have been having drought in Kenya in the past 5 months and it is still going. The problem has affected many and different people have reacted in different ways. We would like to come up with a reaction that will help achieve better goals. We are sure that giving food to the affected people is good but we feel that giving people a long-term solution is better. The farmers are a effected and we would like to help them come up with other solutions: 1. Train them about better farming methods 2. Train them to use better seeds for better yield 3. Giving them certified seeds We are asking forum members to help us train these families and to raise money for certified seeds The costs of seeds are as follows: 1. Corn or Maize @$ 3.50 per 2kg packet 2. Millet or Sorghum @$ 2 per 2kg packet 3. Sunflower @ $ 2 per 2kg packets These are the number of packets we need and their costs 1. Corn or maize @$ 3.50x100 packets =$ 350 2. Millet or sorghum @ $ 2x50 packets =$ 100 3. Sunflower @ $ 2x50 packets =$ 100 4. Training cost (covered by Lake Board) =$ 50 Total $ 600 How will this help the community and Lake fellowship Centre? The trained family members will have enough food in their homes The trained family members increase their level of harvest The families will give back 1% of their harvest to Lake Fellowship Centre to help the orphans living at the Centre Our appeal We are really seeing this as a better move than just giving them food donations and it will just get finished. We are strongly appealing for your help in meeting these needs. Feel free to email me at tomokeyo@... for further communications Tom Okeyo Obiero Lake Fellowship Centre Project Coordinator. __________________________________________________
