Dear Friends (J. Alwar, , and all),

Here is a plain-text version of the attachment! There may still be time if

filled in in the next few days (am also posting to my own org. in Kenya, hence

the note about time). With greatest thanks and best of luck, Janet

Vocational Training Program Questionnaire, HIV/AIDS Unit, World Food Programme,

Rome

Please return to Joyce.Kim@...

Hello all,

Joyce from the World Food Programme wrote earlier about information she is

compiling about a compendium of vocational and skills training programmes for

orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) aged 15-24, particularly those affected by

HIV/AIDS. She needs organizations to reply before the end of the month so the

turnaround time is a bit tight. If you are an organization having a vocational

training programme, please complete the attached document and send back to Joyce

at Joyce.Kim@... .

About the trainees:

1) What age group does your programme target?

2) How do you identify trainees?

3) What are the criteria you use for selection of trainees?

4) What is the family situation for most of them? (eg, urban/rural, economic

status, orphaned, elderly or female-headed household, etc)

5) Have most had some basic/formal school? If so, for about how long? Why

did most leave school? Are there many trainees who have never attended school?

4) What are the main reasons for kids not completing their courses and

leaving the programme?

About the programme:

1) How many trainees are enrolled at any given time?

2) What is the duration of each of the training programmes?

3) Is it residential? Or a day-programme? Other?

4) How far away do the trainees live? How do they get there?

5) Is there food provided for the trainees? By whom? Is there a

school/community garden?

6) Is there HIV/AIDS prevention instruction? Life skills training (HIV/AIDS

prevention, literacy and numeracy, health and hygiene, nutrition education,

sports, housekeeping, budgeting, etc.)?

7) Is there a waiting list to enroll in the programme?

8) What is the enrollment cost to the trainees? Who pays? Is there a bursary

or scholarship scheme?

9) What are the most effective elements of the programme, both in regards to

coursework covered and overall content of the programme?

10) What have been the biggest constraints to overcome?

11) Where does the bulk of the funding come from?

12) What other organizations do you work with?

About the community:

1) What's the community response to the programme?

2) Does the community provide any support to the programme? If so, what?

After the training:

1) Do trainees get assistance in business skills and/or business start-up?

2) Did the programme help secure employment for the trainees after the

training?

3) What are the biggest problems the trainees face after graduation?

4) What kind of follow-up is there after the trainees have left the

programme?
