Volunteer Opportunity in HIV/AIDS training and mentoring

--------------------------------------------------------

Dear All,

In connection with the recent discussion on AFRO-NETS on the

health sector human resource shortage in Africa, I would like to

let you know about an organization that is contributing to

strengthening the health sector of developing countries in Af-

rica and elsewhere: the International Center for Equal Health-

care Access (ICEHA).

ICEHA, a US-based non-profit organization, is a network of US

and European physicians and nurses who volunteer technical as-

sistance on HIV care and infectious diseases to clinics in de-

veloping countries. ICEHA's " transfer of medical skills " model

is aimed at increasing the number of skilled local health care

providers and strengthening the quality of health care delivered

in developing countries. ICEHA's clinical mentoring program was

developed specifically to quickly enhance the skills of local

health care staff so that countries can fight the HIV epidemic

from within. Volunteers typically spend about 6-8 weeks on their

assignment.

ICEHA urgently needs more volunteers to meet the rapidly growing

demand for training in HIV care and treatment. ICEHA works pri-

marily with doctors and nurses who are from the United States,

the United Kingdom, and other developed countries. Doctors and

nurses in developing countries may also apply to provide train-

ing and mentoring in HIV/AIDS care and treatment within their

own countries, this limitation existing so that ICEHA does not

draw health professionals away from countries where their skills

are urgently needed.

For more information or to volunteer, please see

http://www.iceha.org or contact Graves-Abe at

mailto:kgravesabe@.... Please feel free to forward this e-

mail to doctors and nurses who you think might be interested in

volunteering with ICEHA.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Friedman
