Guest guest
Hello Dear Friends, And Tom, this looks fantastic, and hope you and we can generate some donations in these forums! I posted your original plans about a month ago, and if people recall you included some income-generation and nutritional-support plans in your goals for the World AIDS Day activities. I am hopeful that post-December 1st we can cycle back around to discussing this, as the use of the arts to help create both educational and sustainable-development projects is an excellent one, and one which many people would support, I believe. Folks, Tom had submitted a budget which basically was fairly light on everyone's wallet, depending on how many people contributed. For example, if 20 people gave $50, then they would receive $1000 for their activities--which they had envisioned as making printed t-shirts and other items they could sell--the proceeds of which would go into a fund to buy goats and other items related to farming and nutrition, and also to create income-generation projects. I am wondering, though I don't know if there is a " copyright " or any reproduction problems (of a legal or financial nature), if this t-shirt idea could be combined with the " Hands Project " (terrific suggestions, Ingrid!!) in such a way that people could make t-shirts (basically imprints on white background, I think, and perhaps a line or two about the " Hands Project " , maybe even the dates on the back of where it has been: " Thailand/Phuket 2002, Uganda and Kenya 2003, Thailand/Bangkok 2004 " ) and sell them for a small amount, to generate the needed income. What do you think would say about that, and is there a way we could do this which would benefit all of the projects (at least in the long-run)...and without spoiling the more spiritual aspects of the project? I will cc him and again thank him deeply for such a joyous and exciting project!! For people who don't know, the " Hands Project " is an amazing and empowering experience, in which people who have been HIV/AIDS affected or infected come together to literally " imprint " their hands (themselves) on paper or cloth with colored paints. The visual effect is stunning, and equally important is the uplifting effect this project has on folks otherwise struggling with illness and stigma (and it's just plain old fun from the looks of the pix!). The project history is sketched below by Ingrid: it was started in Thailand by Cano, and Ingrid Kloet her husband, Steve Garrett, brought the project from the USA to Uganda (for the recent International Conference of PLWHAS in Kampala, Uganda) and then to Kenya (Nakuru specifically, and the Little Lambs Programme, which helps HIV/AIDS-affected children, esp. orphans). It would be terrific and deeply appreciated if folks could give something to this wonderful program, especially since the arts are so front and center. Tom, thank you for deciding to continue with this in whatever form you can, and hope that this first program will be just the beginning of a larger project which will gain in support and grow in the months and years to come. Please contact tomokeyo@... and lakefellowshipcentre@... for contributions. With gratitude for your vision and for bringing this to our attention, and all best wishes and blessings to you and the Kisumu community you serve, Janet Subject: Re: World AIDS Day -Lake Fellowship Centre Events Hello Tom This sounds great all the happenings on World Aids Day! Tom I tried to send you some files, but it didn't work, maybe its good to contact Stanley (Tuvako, of KAIPPG/ANFORD) about the Hands Project, specially now for World Aids Day, that would be a great project to start and to introduce. We brought one panel with the hands to Uganda, Kampala and one to Kenya Nakuru, to ANFORD, the group from Stanley. And after making the panel with the Orphans they started now their own project. These panels from the Hand Project are going to Bangkok in July for the World Aids Conference in 2004. It's a project from Cano from Phuket, and they make panels with the hands from Orphans and HIV+ women. Stanley will tell you more about this project and please let me know where I can send these files to you. Hear from you warmly greetings Ingrid & Steve Re: World AIDS Day -Lake Fellowship Centre Events WORLD AIDS DAY UPDATE: We had a meeting last evening on 19th November 2003 to see new things about this year's World Aids Day. Awuor_ Lake Fellowship Centre In our meeting we noted that 1st December 2003 is approaching very fast. We had hoped that the funds could help us do some of the items we had planned for the orphans but as per now we have received no funds. The committee faced a difficult decision on picking what to drop and what to do. Finally the following things were picked to go on with some changes made. The Ten Check Points from Kachok to Simba Stage will remain but we have to do it from Simba to Kachok as from 9.00 am to 12.00 p.m. The check points will be at: 1. Simba stage 2) Kilo Stage 3) Pharmacy 4) Oboch market 5) Okonyo Welo market 6) Nyanza Water Office 7) Badis Bar 8) Hollywood Video show 9) Nyaori Junction 10) Kachok Junction Since some of our group members will join the bigger group function at the Kenyatta Sports Ground and some of us will move to Sondu to give them moral support in their afternoon Events, we will end at Kachok at 12.30 p.m and board vehicles for Sondu. In the road shows we are planning to have short skits, teachings about HIV/AIDS, Songs, and Poems. We have changed the venue of the Drama Festivals on 29th November 2003 because of the charges. We are now going to have it at Goan Centre or Tumsifu in Kisumu, it is next to Xsaverian Sec/Primary Schools or St. Cathedral. It will start at 10.00 am and ends at 2.00 p.m. We are joining another group for the Drama and Talents festivals because we could not pay for our venue so our meeting agreed we better join and work together. The following things are arranged to take place: 1) Paper Presentations e.g. Stigma and Discrimination, 2) Orphan Care and Support etc 3) Songs and Poems. 4) Dramas etc. 5) Group Discussion on AIDS Issues What We Have Done in This Week: 1) We joined a procession from Got Owakto Dunga Beach in preparation for World AIDS Day, which was organized by Pandi Pieri Catholic Centre. A big number was reached through the teachings, we are joining them again in their procession in Obunga from Kondele to Obunga on 20th Nov 2003. 2) We are going to plant the 200 trees at Nazareth Children's Centre on 28th Nov 2003 and AIC Rae Church. APPEAL FOR DONATIONS: We had earlier requested for funds to help us do something for the orphans BUT we have received no donation. We were faced with financial challenge but we can't give up. We agreed to move on with or with out the funds! Since there are things that must need finance e.g. placards burner, hiring giant puppets, transportation to Sondu and refreshments for those who have organized the road shows. We are still APPEALING to those who can support this program to contact us because we have to move on and there are things that must involve money. All the money given will be reported in the list of contributors. You are all welcome to send your inquiries and donations information to this email tomokeyo@... or lakefellowshipcentre@..., c/o Tom Obiero, Lake Fellowship Centre, Kisumu.
