Dear Friends,

Hello, all, and please see below a notice I am posting for a terrific

student at U. of Washington in Washington State, USA, with whom I have just

spoken myself. She is interested in hearing feedback from people in Kenya,

Uganda, and the Diaspora--esp. in NGOs and CBOs--with a particular focus on

young women. In addition, Seija has examined the differing responses (on the

part of the government in particular) in Uganda and Kenya to HIV/AIDS in

general, and would like some feedback as to some things she has observed.

The info she has now has led her to think that the 2 governments have

responded differently due in part to their differing colonial legacy, so if

people have an expertise or interest in politics or history and would like

to discuss this with her, Seija would be most grateful.

With many thanks for helping her out, and all best wishes, Janet

which I will post this. Thanks!

My name is Seija Virtanen, and I am a graduate student in Public

Administration and International Studies at the University of Washington,

USA. I am currently researching civil society responses to HIV/AIDS in Kenya

and Uganda. I am looking for non-governmental organizations working on AIDS

issues in Kenya or Uganda that would be willing to answer a few questions

about their work (very brief survey).

I am looking for information on how civil society organizations (or

non-governmental organizations) have addressed AIDS in young women ages

15-25 in Kenya and Uganda. I will also look at how the responses of the

respective governments have enabled or hindered the work of NGOs on AIDS. If

you would like to answer a few questions or would like more information

about the purpose of my research please feel free to contact me at:

seija@... or in the USA (206) 524-3984.

Sample questions:

1. Does your organization administer all of its own programs or do you work

in partnership with other organizations?

2. Please describe your programs directed at women.

3. What have been the greatest strengths of your organization's programs?
