And will you be eligible for diaper service AT ALL?? That is ludicrous that they would mention not giving any drinks after 7:00 p.m....who the hell do they think they are? That's like when people notice is not potty trained and ask " why? " , like I'm not being a good parent because he's not trained yet........errrrrrrr........ Guest guest
, I think I'm going to get the respite but this regional center is not as good as the previous one. They really have no excuse for not giving us the services except the delay saves them money. The thing with withholding fluids is so ridiculous. Brook has no control over his bladder so it's not like he's dry in the day time and we just want to help him stay dry at night. Plus he's still not a good eater all the time and we rely on his milk intake for nutrition. Marisa

I, too, have applied for and will shortly be receiving funds, but a word of slight caution....these respite workers get paid quite a bit....like $8.00/hr.!! As you have read from my other post, can no longer go to regular daycare...would you believe I was paying only $55.0/week (part time only) for him ??!! And, it's only $90.00/week all day....this place stays open till 10:00 p.m. weeknights and till midnight on Friday and Saturday! This is why I am so devastated that he can no longer go there! I called my providers with the state and asked them how much I would have to pay them out of my asistance money and they said $8.00/hr! Well, do the math! That's almost $40.00 just in ONE DAY! It's nice to have the services, but they are not always available or affordable, even with financial assistance!!! OOOOPS, forgot the other point,,,,,will have to go back and highlight it on another email back to the list......heheh.....

A lot of them are filled with young adults and there is always the danger of the child being molested/abused...they have offered this to me, but is so young (7) and developmentally like a toddler so there is no way I can leave him there without children his own age....at least, that's my situation... is the youngest child in the program I'm in.....mostly older teens and young adults...... Beth, don't get me wrong.....your advice was wonderful and I agree with you on a lot of issues.....I was trying to just tell you all my side and how it's working for me, that's all...... Guest guest
WHEN WE LIVED IN A BIGGER COMMUNITY FOR A FEW YEARS, THEY HAD SEVERAL DIFFERENT COMPANIES AND RESPITE PROGRAMS LIKE YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT FOR A WEEKEND OR FOR A WEEK, AND NATHAN HAS 576RESPITE HOURS TO USE A YEAR SO WE CHOSE A COMPANY THAT DOES JUST KIDS ON EVERY OTHER WEEKEND, VERY NICE, AND THEY DID THE TEENS AND ADULTS ON ALTERNATE WEEKENDS,BUT SINCE WE MOVED HOME THIS SERVICE IS TOO FAR AWAY, AND IS MISSED, BUT NICE WHILE IT LASTED. There is MAJOR lawsuit going on in the state with so many names being added to it to sue for services that a child DID NOT GET that they were supposed to. For example, one friend was told that until they had an aide her son couldn't attend preschool. (This was a sp ed preschool in our district.) He missed 6 months. She is on the list for that. Another friend has a son with ADD and the school refused to follow his 504 plan and this whole year has been a wash for HIM. She is on the list. Check it out. Guest guest
My son 6 yr old with DS was supposed to get 1 hour a week of PT and 1 1/2 hour a week of OT. He has received almost no services from these folks this year and when I called the County Sp Ed said that they are having trouble filling the positions. Is there anything I can do to force them to use outside agencies to get his therapy made up? in Kentucky
Guest guest
You might also check your state regs and try filing a compliance complaint--in our state, if a district fails to provide what's on the IEP and is caught at it, they can be made to provide compensation in the form of services, including ESY. Often, if a district has the failure to provide services clearly pointed out to them by the parents, they offer up the compensation w/o other pressure, but are more likely to if it resolves the complaint. If districts don't have the personnel to provide services, they HAVE to contract for them because they HAVE to provide the services they committed to on the IEP.
