Guest guest
This, , could be a " hot " topic!! ;-) Although Mac is not even close to the age of puberty (thank goodness), I've also worried about the size of his equipment in regards to standing up and going to the bathroom--there's not much to hang on to! We've tried standing up and he does try to hold it up and outward, but usually it just hangs down and we have a little mess down the side of the toilet and on the floor!!! I thought maybe it was because he isn't circumcised, but probably not. Hopefully, " he'll be as big as he needs to be " for bathroom purposes, too!! LOL - of course, he does have to wash his hands afterwards....but he's very good about it. THANK YOU to all of you that have replied on this topic!!!! I feel much, much better. After all, even though my mom always said " it's not the size of the pen, it's the cute way you write your name that matters " ....it's VERY difficult to write with a pencil that's been sharpened almost all the way to the eraser!!!! Although, now that I remember mom's comment, I wonder if this might be a genetic thing??!?!?! LOLOL. Hope you all had a good weekend. I > thought he was seriously lacking as I do have 2 older boys!!! > > <<and I'm just wondering if this is a DS thing >> > me too. > Gail Believe it or not, I was going to bring this up as a topic! 's " equipment " is so tiny, it almost looks like he doesn't have one. The doctor even mentioned at his check-up that he was concerned that there hasn't been any growth of the fallus (I didn't get to pursue it with him because I had my 10 year old neice at the appointment with me). Anyway, we have waited way too long to teach to stand while tinkling and now we are trying and he is sooooo resistant. Even though there really isn't much to hold, I think it will save me mopping the floor if he can get the hang of it (no pun intended). Currently when he sits to go it will sometimes squirt through that space between the toilet and the bowl and get all over everything. It really cuts down on him being independent in the toilet because I feel I have to be there to help make sure the urine goes in the toilet, instead of on the floor. Some good news is that he is finally telling us when he has to go!!!! Anyone else have problems getting their guys to stand while going to the bathroom? R. Guest guest
I don't think it's a DS thing...;-) Noah is a " sitter " when he pees, since his equipment hangs straight down, it is the easiest (and least messy!) way to do it. Standing up is difficult, as it points straight down, and he isn't very good at aiming! Karla in Texas & Ronca wrote: > > He will be 10 on Wednesday! Guest guest
Ok. Mav is 10. And SMALL. BUT, all my boys were small.....and uncircumcised. I am assuming that my other boys grew....I didn't see them at this age like I see Maverick. Maverick has not strarted puberty yet. We do have him starting deoderant so by the time he really NEEDS it he'll be in the habit....yeah sure! A funny story. I had my friends son, 14 (ds) here. Also had a friend who has a baby with ds.. (, new on this list). Well, Shea proceeded to show us that he was getting hair on his chin. In his pits... on his chest...on his legs..... I TRIED to stop him...but he was ON A ROLL! (And it didn't help that he had an audience who was totally cracking up!) He TOLD ALL! Puberty has hit him,,,,maybe I need to ask his mom about his size for comparison! Guest guest
Ian was very, very small until about 10 years old, when he entered puberty. He's much, much bigger now. So yes, it does happen that it grows. CK, Mom to Ian (2/89), (9/90), and Rose (6/94)
Guest guest
My problem with is when he stands up to pee. He squeezes his scrotum so hard, I'm afraid he's going to hurt himself (pain reaction is delayed with him). He does a great job (with aiming) though. Guest guest
A few months ago Sammy whapped his on the toilet seat (It had to happen at least one to every little boy) and he came over holding it and said " Mommy, Kiss it and Make it Better. " I looked over, said " Sammy, Mommy loves you very much, but there are some things even mommy can't do. " and inside I was laughing. Ok...how do you make it better? ::::laugh::: , Mom to Sammy 7 DS. Guest guest
Ha! Now here is an interesting topic :-) Gabe isn't circumcised either (nice to hear there are others out there the same) and we have problems with missing the potty as well. But, in his case its not size...its directionality! The foreskin tends to stick to one side or the other and then we have pee shooting out sideways and onto the wall! Yikes, never thought about having these types of problems before my boys came along!! Fran
Guest guest
We are having a terrible time with Gabe (6.5/ds) not telling us when he has to go. He will literally hold it all day if we don't force him to go to the bathroom. Anyone else have this problem and a possible solution??? Guest guest
I think it is a DS thing because one of the very 1st indications that there was something wrong after Nic was born was when I read his chart and it said " small penis " . I didn't think that was something they normally would note on a chart. Guest guest
Well, I guess Danny was the 10-year-old boys' representative at the Suaree this year. Ditto for all your comments on the size of his " equipment " . The Porta-Potty is one of Danny's least favorite places in the whole world, and he was not about to SIT while in it. Those of you who didn't make it may be comforted to know that, due to standing, your boys' representative needed a change of clothes from the waist down following his Porta-Potty " visit " . Guest guest
hahah , well it is " different " being that my older son (9) is done (although haven't seen it in years, so wouldn't even know if it looks ok at this point! haha..) It's strange having one done and one not.. I have always preferred the circumsized, but with , I've just never thought about it, beyond the initial day of going in for it. He " is " small compared to my other son at this age, and I did ask about it too, and it's a trait of D.S.. does anyone know if any other boys have fathered children? when was born, there was only one known case.. but the girls can have babies. Shar ................................ ----- Shar, We had this same situation, but did eventually get circumcised. And after he did I regretted it...at least pre-circumcision there was something there...lol! R. Mom to (7, ds) and Grace (4)
Guest guest
We have always stood so no problem there. I do have a recomendation for those whose equip is too small to hold. (6) is fairly small and instead of actually holding IT - we press on the tummy just above it and sort of lift it by gently tugging at the skin. I did this initially b/c I didn't want to touch it - and teachers don't have to either if they are helping. Your fine motor skills don't have to be great to be successful. in Dallas >>Some good news is that he is finally telling us when he has to go!!!! Guest guest
HI My son is 13 and will hold it all day. We just tell him and people he is with to tell him " it is time to go to the bathroom " Period. When there is other boys we have him go when they go(when there is more then one toilet). At school they have him go when someone else asks to go. I can't tell you how many times I have heard " mom I went yesterday!! Guest guest
I would not recommend this, except as a last resort, but I had a student with Cornelia de Lange syndrome (a characteristic of this is that everything is very small) in my class for 4 years (ages 15-19). He, too, had extremely small " equipment " and would become very frustrated when we tried to get him to independently hold/find " it " . His parents came up with an idea that did work for him--they got a long (6-8 inches), hard, thick type of plastic tubing that he would hold over his penis and urinate right into the stool. It allowed him to be more independent at bathrooming. He was responsible for getting his bag and getting the tube, taking it to the bathroom, using it, then rinsing it out and putting it back in the bag. His parents would then wash/sanitize/disinfect it every night for use the next day. We never went anywhere without " the tube " --it prevented a lot of accidents and inconvenience. Again, I think, most of " our " kids will learn to use their small " equipment " eventually without any type of device, so I wouldn't recommend this method. But, it is an idea, if you get desperate!!
