Just to be prepared and I know I have 4 years before this really becomes a

concern, I called my school district and said that I wanted so information on

thier history and experience with inclusion as opposed to segregation.... the

first lady I spoke to said it would be decided by the superintendant and that

it would depend on teh iep... I said well she is only 1 and only has an ifsp

right now but that I was just collecting information since I had been reading

how much more a child with Down syndrome excells when there is more inclusion

with supports then having a child segregated automatically... the lady said

it would depend on the severity.... then she said she would have her boss

call me tomorrow....

to me it sounds like inclusion is not a concept they have dealt with much and

possibly i will be breaking ground .. i kinda remember spec ed kids at my

son's school when he went to public but i do not remember any of them in my

son's class and if i remember all the pictures on teh wall correctly, they

had their own class....

part of me knows i have some time before i have to be real worried but

another part kinda wants to know how the school district deals with this and

if i will have to really fight for 's rights..... though for all i

know, she will need more of the segregated class but i don''t want to just

automatically make that choice without trying other options first...

ok enough rambling for midnight....

Where are you located?? I don't think one is too young. I'm glad to see

that you are getting involved. You can start inclusion in your community at

any time.
