<<I'm on the DRVD DD Advisory Council. We keep tabs on DRVD and we help

them formulate their priorities for the

year. It is easy to get down on them, but they are doing more and are more

aggressive than ever legally.

The reason why I'm writing is that we need more Council members. There is a

small questionnaire to fill out and applications are reviewed by the

Council. We need more representation from northern VA. Also, no one that I

know is associated with any child/adult with ds.

Eligible persons include consumers with a developmental disability, parents

of consumers with a DD, DD serivce providers, advocates and possibly others.

The Council also has no minority representation (the one African American

that was a Council member no longer comes to the meetings) and we would like

to diversify.

Meetings are held once a quarter. Outside work is minimal. It is an

excellent opportunity for persons to learn about VA's network of DD care

facilities and DRVD's operations.
