" we are here to check for rabies " lololol anyway he was upset too on the schools reaction to this. He told me he's known Sara forever and he does not buy their stories, that it was unprovoked. She did come home with a clean bill of health, in fact he thinks she hung the moon. Sara's more wittier whenever he is around, like maybe a patient/dr crush is going on. She pulled her knock, knock joke on him and he said there is nothing wrong with Sara except for maybe a little pent up frustration. What a way to end a day.... Guest guest
Oh, Kathy, that so stinks! Two hours facing the wall?! Who decided THAT? We had a sped child (mostly included) who got ISS for something recently, only the school made it OSS because they couldn't provide for ISS!! Watch them. (ISS = in school suspension; OSS = out of school suspension) Are you sure Sara really bit her? If not, this might be a school board issue. (Glad to hear rabies isn't a concern! ;o) Shows your sense of twisted humor is still intact!) Judi -

Guest guest
Kathy, I can hardly believe -2 hours!!!!!. Fifteen minutes would have been too long. This whole thing is hard to believe, what kind of crazy people are you dealing with. Please understand I am not doubting your word, it just seems impossible any people could be so stupid and obnoxious. Thank goodness for the doctor. One of 's friends in school was always in trouble. I don't know what he did, couldn't tell me. He was somewhat retarded, I don't really know what his problem is, he looks normal and talks well till you talk to him a bit and then realize something is not quite right. Anyway, if he had been my kid I would have taken him out of there. He spent hours sitting against the wall, but not facing it. They sometimes made kids stand facing the wall, and once I saw a kid taped to the wall, just his head. They had different ways of doing things. But not for 2 hours.!!! I don't think suffered with any of those things, he seldom got in trouble. You really need to go farther with this, hey how about the Supreme Court? No, I don't think we can count on them any more, they're getting weird. Sorry to ramble. Just want you to know we are all on your side. And Sara's. You know we love Sara too. She's one of the " club " . Love, Jessie

I was given a notification form our county uses for ISS...completely useless and lacking of all info >Doesn't that sound extreme? ME.....Yes very extreme, even the teachers involved said this was way out of line, This was an administration decision, and no one took accountability when I was in the Principals office this morning, all passed the buck and when they did I insisted the person " blamed " get called into this informal chat lol (only informal because I and coordinator were the only ones sitting lol) I left not knowing who put Sara in time out for 2 hours, when I returned to pick up Sara for her DR appt they said the findings on the investigation were that the Principal told Sara's aide for Sara to sit and calm down and then go back to work, supposedly this was blamed on miscommunication, now remember Principal said she didn't take Sara back to class and 4 hours after she said this she took the blame today...hmmmmmm confused yet????? >Is that legal? For ANY child? No matter what they did? Suspension is legal, Sara bit a child, but there are some detail protocol that has to be followed out, like Sara must be aware of the school rule etc.... Ona is going to a workshop this weekend in MS and will ask him details of Sara's case. Sara knows biting is wrong but is she aware this is a school policy??? NO and the consequences I don't know.....suspension is really not what I'm upset about, it's the lack of the school calling me and making me aware. I could have had a chance to question Sara about the involvement of the other child if I was called but because Sara was sooo upset by the time I got there, the recall was gone > And she is suspended for the biting incident? Yet they are admitting that > THEY dropped the ball? > This is scary! ME again........ yes, very scary, the lies, false stories, extreme punishment, I mean do Reg Ed kids get reprimand by 5 adults after any incident? NO but Sara was I did ask who all had contact with Sara after this incident and who reprimanded her and 5 admitted they did. Well, we will see how the New BIP meeting goes, notification call came while I was at the DR's and they want to meet on the 7th, 5 days before her annual IEP meeting. I will have their copy of the written report by then so Ill see what I need to do after that. I could have accepted their apologies for dropping the ball, if they hadn't tried to cover their rears and lie to me Kathy mom to Sara 9 >

Guest guest
Kathy, This teacher was abusive to your daughter and I wouldn't tolerate it. Our kids do exactly what everyone else's kids do but they don't have the guile to keep from getting caught. I would insist that the child who has been picking on Sara be disciplined as well. I would also tell that teacher that she will NOT do that again. If Sara is suspended (which she can be for this), then they should have had you there immediately. I have seen provoked many a time. I have actually heard kids call him retard in the halls. If he hit that same child who is tormenting him....Oh well there are sometimes consequences for our actions. This is ONE of the violations we found. You all would have been so proud of me after having 5 hr. of sleep and waking up twice in the middle of night with Sara (bad dreams Im guessing...she was crying) I prayed in the car as I took Sara to school. I prayed for a wise tongue, sharp mind, and a calm attitude. I was blessed because all was granted My memory for recalling different facts for the same time frame was sharp too heehee Now I will admit I was a bit nervous, I have never liked the inside of a principal office....OK OK high school times, so it left me a bit uncomfortable lol Its been awhile since Ive had to deal with any confrontation with Sara's team, I guess the practice Ive been receiving as a support person is helping me be stronger. Its just so hard when its your own child I will be dragging a support person with me to Sara's annual IEP (tape recorder too) and probably the BIP meeting. Guest guest
hey Kathy, one of the big questions that needs to be asked, exactly what are the other children required to DO during ISS? My guess is they DON'T sit facing the wall for two hrs. Around here they have a room near the office where they sit in a desk supposedly doing school work. butheres also computers in there so they basically play. But while they are required to sit quietly at a desk, they do have the choice to read or work on something while sitting there.......but I suppose some do choose to count the ceiling tiles or cracks in the walls. :-) Joy

The told me they set up a session where they would role playing " how to react " The behavior specialist was with her the whole time (supposedly) and she pulled typical kids into this session. I also told them I did not want any more reprimands of the biting incident, enough is enough, she got lectured by 5 adults yesterday and I didn't want this to carry into the next day. Im betting though they spent half of Sara's time in ISS meeting to discuss how to get their butts out of trouble, well I know they did. They told me the ISS was going to be only half a day so I checked her out at noon to take her to he dr. Go figure! 's classmate did not provoke him either. I still think 2 hours facing the wall is bizzare discipline and CPS should be called. That is IMHO! Guest guest
<<Kathy mom to Sara 9.......I think the ISS thing was for the benefit of the other parent>> Hi Kathy, I sometimes can not believe what I read. Seems that some school personal ought to go back somewhere for more learning! I just read of strapping a 5 yr old to his chair for 30 minutes because he is active and inquisitive. And a 2 hour time out. I wouldn't allow 1 minute! What is wrong with these people! Some of you may remember that Ted was suspended earlier this year. I guess his infraction was bad as he didn't start out with an ISS and went right to the 3 day out of school. Like it had any impact on him at all... I wonder whose benefit it was for. Guest guest
<< Hey where are you all Heehee >> Well, I was at the FAIR. ALL DAY LONG! Maverick and his Dad have been camped out there all week with Porky. Maverick showed the pig twice, once for showmanship and once for market and yesterday was the auction and he sold the pig. Thank Goodness! They come home today. He did very well and totally impressed me with all his skills of showing, knowing just how to hang the pig brush from his hip pocket, directing the pig to where he wanted him to go. His Father has done all the 4H work. Since I am in the center of all his school and household life, it was very pleasant and surprising to see how and the others in the club worked with him without me there to direct. He was just one of the kids and accepted and challenged and praised. It was so interesting that all his friends and their parents who see him included in school, had no questions or concerns about him being in the 4H club. And I didn't even have to have an IEP meeting!

While I'm not sure if there are 4h clubs around your area, for general information to you and others here in case you aren't aware, city/town kids can show farm animals without actually having to own or care for them 24/7. What they do is 'lease' them from the farmer who owns them and they never leave the farm til fair time. It requires that the child leasing, learn to feed, groom and show them. The leaser is then responsible to care for them during the fair/show. Usually they go out to the farm and care and practice with the animal about once aweek, this is how some town kids get to show cows, they acctually have an advantage over those of us who own cows cause they can pick a farm that has always placed pretty good in shows. has always enjoyed showing, but if she does this year it will have to be in open shows because wasn't able to go to meetings this year so neither are in 4h. :-( Hopefully will take her to a show or two. But who knows........ Joy PS Congrats to Mav for doing a good job. :-)

There are rabbits, guinea pigs, and pigeons in the animal category. And without animals there is photography, cake decorating, archery, etc. In Az kids have to be 9 to participate in showing, but from 5 to 9 they can be in a group that is called Clover Kids. They do their own type of activities and even have a display in the halls. One club we were in let the Clover Kids " help " their older sibs or they hooked them up with an older particpant to learn to care for the animals. Guest guest
<< Did he dress his pig up? >> Nope, didn't dress the pig up. They judge would have booted him out! Very interesting, in the past the kids were told to hold a hand behind their back, keep their eyes on the judge and SMILE all the time. We worked with Maverick for the years before he actually was old enough to show and he had it down pat! Well, the first year he showed, there was a different judge. He told the kids he had better not see them smiling out there... 4H was serious business....and keep their eyes on the pigs not him! Well, how do we UNTEACH Mr. ROUTINE in a few days! He did as well as the rest of the kids who had been smiling for year. THIS year, he knew not to smile. When he was doing the auction, I told him to enjoy himself and smile...the judging was over and he said, " NOPE,NOT ME! " !! He adapts better than I do!! ..... who is dreading the laundry that will come home with the boys from the Fair today!!
