(and I could name someone else to but she'll ahve to volenteer her own name for the list of awful spelling and large numbers of typos, hehehe) While Elaine may like tips on Dutch I'll pass I think, I once looked at my Dad's college Norwegian book, ugh. I think he took that because his Dad and Grandparents actually spoke it some when he was growing up so he figured it was maybe easier, who knows? Looked really hard to me. Guest guest
Just a habit guys. I correct student's grammar and spelling for a living. Guest guest
Hi Elaine, Don't be sorry, I wasn't offended by it. ;-)) I know the habit, have it here to in correcting peoples Dutch. I call it an profesional devinciancy (if thats how you write it LOL). Others just call me 'wise guy'. Thanks for the long message, I always like it when people tell me how their way of thinking is and why they believe the way they do. I hope you don't mind if I do the same, maybe it makes you and others understand why I reacted the way I did to the first message on this subject. I want to point out that this is MY view on things. Becoming a certain age, I started to think about religion and what it ment to me. After studying different believes, looking at why people believed the way they do and where it al originated, I came to the conclusion that I couldn't believe in one religion. It just didn't fit. What I discovered that people mainly believe because they want to give a meaning to live, it's to scary to live without a reason as a thinking being. I also discovered that most religions are there to give a direction how to live your live right. I myself think what we already know whats right and wrong in our hearts. It's called a consience. Sadly enough it all went wrong with the good intentions of the visionares who tried to guide us through live, like Jesus and Mohammed. People started to bend the Bible and Koran and other holy scriptures in the way they could use it the best. Started to forget that those scriptures ware told and written in a time where people talked in an other way. The storytellers used exsaturation and told in a way that the listeners would be intriged, would visionalise it. And forgot the main message in them all, love and respect your fellow human being. Help eachother. Be good to eachother. And so the people started to tell others they should believe in their way, should follow their way, the way how they read their book. Should live and think how they wanted to have them think. And wars began, hatred, bigatry, etc. And this is the part why I got upset. Because there's no praying in your schools, kids and society get violent? I never pray, so that means I am bad? I hurt people? Well everyone who knows me, know that I won't hurt a mouse. And the saddest part is that those words often are written and believed by people who , for example, support death penalties (if that isn't violent). I don't want to say that everyone does, because I know there are a lot that don't. I believe that God isn't some appearance outside of us, I believe there's a God within everyone of us and when you do right, the divineness shines through a little. And above this all, I just can't believe that one group, Christians, Jews, Muslims or other, etc. is right and the others are wrong. And if you believe in the one, you can respect the other but you have to think that they are wrong, are in the wrong religion. And although I am a little arrogant, this is a bit to much. There are a lot more things I believe in, some through personal experience, like reincarnation. But that goes to far to spread that out. So that was a long story. By the way, where is the bathroom in dutch is 'waar is het toilet' . And the stay-at-home dad is a choice. First because I wanted to and my wife wanted an career. Second, financially her position is better. And I love every minute of it. Rob -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: & Elaine Bonorato [mailto:Bonoratoe001@...] Verzonden: donderdag 15 maart 2001 3:49 Aan: breedeveld Onderwerp: Re: RE: Subject: Re: Makes you think......(Elaine) Sorry about the English lesson Rob. It is habit. I teach at a school for Medical Assistants (post secondary) and most of my students have had pidgin English (here in Hawaii) or English is their second language. I speak a tiny bit of French, Spanish, and German. I can ask where the bathroom (water closet) is in every one of those languages and I know what I'm eating:))) I do not use corporal punishment. I have found that grounding, taking away privileges and taking the car keys tends to work. I also explain my expectations very carefully to my kids. A gun will never enter my home. I don't like them and I would be afraid that someone (probably me) who shoot themselves. My husband and I disagree on gun control to some extent but he would rather give in on this point than have to listen to my objections to it forever ad nauseum. LOL. I know your English must be better than my Dutch. I know NO words in your language, not even " Where is the bathroom? " I did want to make the point that your note sounding very ethnocentric. I am proud of my country as I know you are yours. We have a lot to offer. That's why we have to sometimes keep people out. Have a good afternoon. I have to go to choir practice. I am Roman Catholic but would never push my beliefs on others. I wouldn't print a letter discussing them on the list. I also love diversity and have friends of every faith. The only time I tend to be intolerant is when people use their faith to hurt others (as you feel). I object to the subjugation of women that some religions Deify. I also think it is so incredible that you are a stay at home Dad. More power to you. Elaine
