Guest guest
To Randi, Yes you may print the letter. I wrote it to help get the word out to the public; hope it will do some good for our servicemen and women.
Guest guest
I doubt that it will get printed, but, I submitted this letter to the Tribune: The poor, the elderly, and the disabled are once again being held hostage by Illinois bureaucrats who have personal agendas, powerful egos, and plenty of chutzpah (that's audacity for the uninitiated). As the parent of a young man with a developmental disability, I am terrified for my son's future. Illinois has a culture of corruption and patronage, a repeating pattern of balancing the budget by reducing community services, and a solid history of fiscal and moral irresponsibility with its reliance on institutional care for the elderly and individuals with disabilities Illinois has been consistently found to be at the bottom when compared to all other states in providing adequate funding for community supports and services for individuals with disabilities. But aren't we all sick of the political posturing and game playing of our elected officials? We are paying our elected legislators overtime while the threat of a doom and gloom budget hangs over our heads. We need legislators with courage to do the right thing and we need them to do it now. Before we fund roads, before we fund the lions, tigers and bears, let's step up and do what should be done first. Legislators need to address reforms, then we need a 5% income tax increase and then we can determine what is available for capital spending. There is no need to cut community services if our legislators and leaders put people before politics. I hope our legislators and leaders put an end to the " business as usual " approach to government in Illinois and take the high moral road out of the cesspool that we have become. Our leadership had better start doing their jobs or I would strongly suggest that we vote them all out and start fresh in the next election cycle.
